I know I have read lots of lorry posts just recently - I am looking at downsizing from my lovely 7.5t box to a 3.5t, as I just don't need anything that big anymore.

Could all you lovely people here give me some of the websites of box dealers. I ideally would like to go to a couple of places to take a good look at the boxes before parting with my money - so if there are any in the south west they would be more convenient, but also in and around Kent area, as sis lives up there!

Also recommendations for chassis - is the renault chassis anygood? I'm talking mechanically here. I also was looking at the equitrek sonic and super sonic on the peugeot chassis - has anyone any experience with these? Basically what has everyone found to be the best box that they have used.

Thanks all for your help!

The newer Renault mastrs re nice boxes and most the smaller lorries seem to be based on them now. Have you a pic on the above equitrek?

Have just bought an equitrek at the weekend its fantastic to drive, hardly needs servicing no plating just MOT when its three and cheaper to tax.

Haven't had horses in it yet but am really pleased with it .

They have some details on their website

http://www.equi-trek.com/sonic.html

not that much info on there really, but I know I did look in them at badminton last year briefly - on the way back from the toilets!!! haha!!

sherlocksgirls - what is the tax on the equitrek and did you get the sonic or supersonic?
I'd like to know how it is with horses in and how it copes with hills with horses in. I'm in the depths of cornwall, and hills are out speciality, especially hamburger hill you have to go up to get out!!! LOL!

I've got a supersonic and they're supposed to be fantastic for hills. It's certainly gutsy and doesn't half shift. good job its got a speed limiter on it .

ooh - they are so tempting!!!

What extras did you get on yours? What limit is the speed limiter set to (just out of interest!!?)
I think the nearest distributor is salisbury to me - which is still a bit of a jaunt!

What is the storage like in them? That is the only thing that I'm a bit concerned about downsizing is losing storage, but I'm sure i would get over it!!

Limiters will be set to 56 mph
Tax on ouor lorry is the standard private vehicle rate

The big difference wiht teh Equitrek seems to be Sonic is ok for post 97 drivers and will be a 3,5 tonne MOT, the Supersonic is 4 tonnes, so needs a CLASS 1 entitlement, so pre 97 test or a C / C1 driving test. and VOSA Inspectorate MOT ( same cost as car or van MOT, just a different test centre)

Hi LCobby

licence isn't a problem as I already hold a full C category on my licence and currently own a 7.5t lorry, but am looking to downsize as I don't need a lorry this big. But yes a supersonic would require the further test to drive up to 7.5t, you couldn't drive this on a car licence post 97.

Just to note though - although the C1 category means you can drive up to 7.5t, this isn't the same as a class 1 license. A class 1 licence is what DVLA used to call a licence to drive an articulated lorry; class 2 was previously what was called to drive any rigid lorry (over 7.5t). But then they changed their names and now C1 is up to 7.5t, however a lot of people still refer to class 1 and class 2 licence.

How old is your lorry? I was asking the tax price for the equitrek as I am curious if they are post 2001 if their tax is based on emissions as per cars and sherlocksgirls had mentioned cheaper tax. My current lorry is standard private vehicle rate as well.

Also it is over 7.5t lorries that normally would have a speed limiter to 56mph - if the equitrek is limited to that I would be suprised, as any vehicle up to 7.5t, unless articulated or towing, has a speed limit the same as cars - i.e. national speed limit on dual carriage ways 60mph and motorways 70mph etc.

as per:

my MAN 7.5T doesn't have a limiter...its on a W plate 2000..

can easily get 70 out of it with 4 on.....
