Hello all,

My name is Elliot Jackson. I have been around horses since before I can remember. I got my first pony when I was about 3, a welsh mountain section A palomino gelding, he was bombproof, it was he that started my love of horses. We had to sell him when I was 8 because my family decided that we should move to France. I am now 15 and the proud owner of Dream Girl, a 3 year old Appaloosa mare and have changed my riding style to western:

And as a family we own:
Willow Warbler, a 6 year old Exmoor Pony and mother to our 3 other (soon to be 4 :D) exmoors:
Dovetail: 2 year old mare
Eiderdown: 1 year old ,mare
Finches Fat Chance (Finchly) : ≈6 month old colt

I, like so many others have also lost a horse that I loved:
Starletnight:
3 year old Appaloosa Mare
French showmanship youth champion
French showmanship amateur champion
2nd French youth halter mares
2nd French hunter in hand youth
R.I.P Starlet, you will always be in our hearts

I hope to learn more about horses on this forum and in turn help others.
Does anyone else here ride western?

P.S.
I hope this is the right place to post this, apologies if not.

so welcome to the forum :)

Welcome! :) What a lovely bunch of horses you have, and thanks for sharing them all here. I don't ride Western but a friend of mine does and has a Quarter Horse. It's fascinating watching her in the arena! ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There are a few of us Western Riders on here.

My horse is a Appaloosa X Dutch Warm Blood (Heartbreak in Nevada or Vardi for short!) bought for dressage but he had a bad accident last year so is not capable of competing at a high level so after running into my wonderful instructor and trainer have had him re-started as a Western Riding Horse.

He is doing brilliantly this older ex Dressage Diva is trying to catch him up!

Next year I am hoping to be able to complete low level trail and Horsemanship with him.

Vardi with Jan on board.

And with his best mate Mac (who is in reality one chunky Quarter Horse but Vardi Makes him look like a pony!)

Hi there. Your horses are beautiful. The one in the last picture is particularly stunning. Never ridden western, but wouldn't be averse to trying it. Apparently much more comfy than English saddles!

Thank you all for your welcome and compliments :-)

Mytwofriends: Does she do any particular discipline or is it just for pleasure? I love QH's

Chavhorse: Nice horses and good luck with the competing. What was the accident? Maybe he could try low level reining (western dressage equivalent)?

Thank you,
That picture was taken just after she won the French Championships, she broke her leg 2 months after this picture was taken :(
On a brighter note, yes it is much more comfy than an english saddle.

Hi,

Welcome. You are another one to add to the growing list who lives out of the UK!

Love your exmoors, I have a friend in Wales who breeds them.

Sorry to read about the lovely Starlet, you are both turned out beautifully in that photograph, I really dislike having to bunch manes up like that, it takes me forever!

I have Paints and QH's and I ride western too, gave up on the English saddles when I bought my first western trained horse, she didn't like English at all, so I learned her language instead. I wouldn't go back to English now unless I was back in Britain - can't quite see anyone hunting in a western saddle, can you imagine the looks!:D

Welcome to the forum :-) It really is a great way to learn from the experts- I'm learning new things every day. Your horses are beautiful- love the exmoor foal! I've ridden western a few times (once on a holiday in martinique of all places! and once when I did a summer equine camp in usa) it was really good fun and would love to try it again in the uk.

Does your friend have a website that I can take a look at? Mine came from the "Anchor" herd, I don't know if that means anything to you?!
If you want to see more pics there is more about all our horses on our website (still being built): http://www.twisters.fr/

I think it takes everyone ages to bunch up the manes but it looks so nice when its done... :)

I could never go back to an English saddle either :D

No I'm not.
All I've got planned so far are the French championships this year with Dream Girl and maybe the European championships in a few years time.
Otherwise I'm just sticking to local shows :)
