Don't know if any of you remember.. but last year i did 2 different ODEs on the same day (obv. on different horses)...

And for my next trick.. (anyone good with expected journey times??)...

Blackdown Hills on Sunday the 6th of May with an intro.. then jump in my [chaved up] car and hot foot it up to Osberton to do the CIC** dressage also on Sunday the 6th May, SJing and XC are on the 7th...

If each event is willing to be helpfull.. ie i'm first to go at Blackdown Hills, and last to go at Osberton.. i think it can be done!??!?!

ETS.. Blackdown Hills is North Devon.. Osberton is Notts... M5 most the way i guess..

I've no idea however the whittakers used to complete on the continent and then fly back and ride at Olympia all on the same day, and you aren't even using a passport....

Thats actually insane

Any luck finding a lift yet?

Yeah, the ODEs were not that far apart.. they were Tiverton and Bridgwater, so about 1hr drive at the most...

On a good run it has to be about 3.5hrs from Devon up to Notts??

Longer I'd say, esp factoring in traffic.
Scrap the intro I say, focus on doing really, really well with Ernie!!

3.5 hours!!!! it would probably take you that long to get to the motorway on good friday from Blackdown - traffic is going to be horrible

Sounds a bit risky - if there is a hold up on the XC at Blackdown or problems on the motorway you could be stuffed!

Is it worth it for an Intro class? Would be horrible to blow your dressage test at Osberton because you were late / stressed.

Thats do-able! I can almost beat that- in Paris next week till friday then get euro star AM to london then drive very fast up to Burnham Market in Nofork to make it time for my Friday CIC day before dressage! Madness!

seriously diesel is right about the bank holiday traffic and do you want to riskyour CIC test for the sake of an intro? I have never done that journey in a horsebox in less than 4 hours and i was not as far to sw as you. I would concentrate on osberton if i were you. x

It could be done but I think you are silly and not giving either horse the time and concentration needed. Concentrate on one or another. It is difficult enough with 2 or more at an event leave alone many miles apart.

definalty DONT do it. I travelled down to dartmoor for a d of e expedition last year - it took me six hours, without traffic. I know this is not quite where you are from, but I live just down the road from Osberton. However, on the way back, huge pile up on motorway outside bristol - took the best part of ten hours.

Dont forget it's both a bank holiday weekend and Badminton - although M5 isn't the Badminton side of Bristol so might not be a problem

If you do it - I'll send you some choccie

We could take forum bets and everything

i know it's only an intro, but i can't not do it, would have to scrap Osberton and maybe aim for Sansaw instead.. intro is on an owners horse that has had to put off several first runs, and i don't want to ask them to put off another...

Will ring both events and see what they say... as for giving both horses the time.. i'm better then i don't think about things at all, and am put under pressure!!

No way is it less than 4hrs to Osberton. From Nottingham its 3 1/2hrs to badminton if its the middle of the night , ok slightly different place but also from Nottingham its a good 45mins to Osberton as its north of it up the A1 so getting across to the A1 is a pain!

1 or the other i'd say there are loads of intro's and CIC more important...

I think you should ask the owners of the intro horse to find another rider for it. Why not ask if Boss can ride it for them?Or the owners will just have to wait another week or two to do a later Intro. They must understand that the bigger comps come first.

The roads are sooo unreliable these days and it only takes one person to crash their car and the motorway will be shut for hours.

Go for it. You'll never know if you don't try it - and it'll be so impressive if you make it! Rather you than me though, potentially horrible journey
