Well the vet came out to take blood for the allergy test, that bit was fine. Got the mask out of the box amid much huffing and puffing from Patrick, managed to get his nose into the mask and get it fastened to more huffing and puffing. Left the mask on for 5 minutes to get him used to it then sprayed the steroid. Cue 2 front feet off the ground, settled him back down again then tried again, Patrick reared up fairly high both front feet came out, he shook his head and broke the spacer! After that we couldn't even get near him to try again so the vet and I decided that it realy wasn't going to work as I would have to do it by myself twice a day and it was supposed to be 12 sprays of the steroid at a time. So he is now on 100 tablets twice a day so please everyone fingers crossed the tablets work.

They are not as effective as the inhaled steroids but I now don't have a choice. Sometimes I wish I had a different interest I really do, like oh I don't know knitting or something

well if it gives you any hope.

Mac has a long term cough and only thing that showed up were slightly elevated levels of fungal spores, despite a full box clean out and switching bedding etc.

Tried the inhaler no luck switched to oral steroids and they cleared the problem right up.

This was after liquid baytril had failed which is supposed to be "the" antibiotic of choice.

So there's still hope, will keep my fingers crossed for you and patrik.

I've tried that with my mare. I spent most of the time being double barrelled or hanging off her headcollar. I had to go the expensive route too.

You could say that!
Thank you

Thanks Ovidius at the moment I have just added them to his feed and he was eating them tonight. Fingers crossed he carries on, I was going to get some sugar beet and mix them in with that but apart from that I am out of ideas.

Poor horse!

We used to have to feed prednisilone tablets, sixty a day and I found the easiest was to smash them up with a pestle and feed with proper sugar beet to mask any taste. Beforehand the owner had been syringing them down her as she wouldn't eat them which was quite easy until she got very wary and would fling her head everywhere to avoid it, not good for when you want to worm anything either!

Poor Patrick - I don't blame him for the reaction I hate having a mask if I have a GA so I know how he feels. Hope he is better soon.
