After reading all the threads on feeding raw, i think Bob is going to be the next HHO recruit......but of course i need some help!
I go to work 4-6am everyday and get home 1130am-12 so Bob gets his breakfast in 3 different treat balls, a frozen Kong stuffed with kibble and primula cheese and a various chews to keep him occupied until i get home. When feeding raw i understand you cant feed kibble (within 12hours) so what do i give him in replacement of his Kong and treat balls? And what do i use as training treats? I dont fancy carrying a chicken wing in my pocket!!!

I stuff kongs with either beef mince, salmon mousse, tinned tuna and the odd smear of leftovers (mashed potato/veg/meat scraps/gravy/cheese) and then freeze it to make it last longer. The very biggest kong holds a whole meal's worth of mince if you pack it tight.

No idea on the treat ball I'm afraid but a big meaty bone from the butchers would be an excellent substitute. :)

For training treats I use little bits of cooked sausage, chicken and mince. I get loads of leftover sausages and other meat from work most weeks and have them chopped up in a tub in the fridge, then I can dole out a walk's worth into a sandwich bag so my pocket doesn't get greasy. :o

A large raw meaty bone instead of a treat ball would work really well, it will keep them occupied for hours, lamb is better as being from a younger animal it is much softer than beef, or a pigs trotter. Treats for training I use Natural Instinct's liver treats, meat jerky or pepperami, they will do anything for bits of that!

Yep, Oscar would sell his soul for Pepperami  but Dash is more into cheese, the older and smellier the better (parmesan rind is fave!) or ,oddly enough, berries  he thought he must have done something extra special the other day when I had run out of cheese and rewarded him for recall with the blackberries and sloes I was picking. Does anyone know if they are safe to feed - no ill effects observed yet...

Brownmare I don't know the official line, but my Poppy loved nothing more than to help picking blackberries, so they must be good, as she was such a fussy eater normally! :) I can't see why they wouldn't be okay. The gun dogs I occasionally doggy sit for are in runs with fruit trees surrounding them and fruit often falls into their runs and they never seem to be adversely affected by eating it. When the fig tree dropped one when all 4 were in the same run BOY was there a squabble for it! :D

Forget fixed rules, the principle behind raw feeding is that the diet over a week or so will balance itself out.Think scavenger, which canines are, anything going is fine in the long run. Mostly mine are raw fed all the time, but a tin of the dreaded commercial sometimes is`nt fatal! I don`t regard the veggie stuff as essential either, though a gollop of self served green horse poop is surely very beneficial to them.
