I am sick of using OH van to tow in, can't see a bloody thing reversing . Need to tow rice style trailer(about a ton) and connemara pony and use every day. I'm thinking Nissan X-trail or old shape Honda crv.(budget £9000) Anyone tow with one? OH is thinking about splashing out on Freelander 2 but not sure I can then bear him moaning about how much we spent to tow a 'my little pony' in all the time! Any ideas?
Thanks

I'd say the CRV would really have enough power/weight I'm afraid unless you were using a smaller/lighter trailer to cut down on some weight. Parkers.co.uk is showing most models as rated to tow 1500kg which isn't that much.

X-trail slightly better as rated to tow 2000kg, so I'd have a look in more detail at one of those over the CRV. Diesel would be good as they tend to have a heavier kerbweight and more "low end grunt" for towing. (plus better fuel consumption)

Wouldn't consider a RAV4 or freelander to be very good for towing. I would definately recommend Kia sorento though

fairly economical to run every day, but can tow what you need to & it's got whattowcar of the year loads of years running.

I picked up a 53 plate for 6k, so easily within your budget. (Would recommend XS model over XE).

I tow with an x-trail. Richardson trailer and near enough half a tonne of arab and it's fab. It is the diesel model and is rated to pull 2 tonne. My step dad towed the trailer with it the other day and was impressed! (He's an ex mechanic and ex police)
