Went to visit Rosie again this morning and the packing has been taken out of her wound now with just the one stitch to hold it closed. She is happy enough in herself and very alert when taken for a short walk to stretch her legs a little

There is a lot of swelling in her chest from the injury. I tried to get a picture of it but not too sure if you can make it out very well but here goes

Keep the vibes coming please folks

Ugggg!!! Glad that's healing and hope she's better soon!!!

That's an awful injury ((((hugs))) to you and her. x

Poor mare but at least she is being a sensible patient from the sounds of it.

Is that congealed blood underneath the wound? ( sorry just my morbid curiosity) I guess it can't be cleaned untill the wound has stableised?

What you are seeing is the hole with blood still seeping out. Every time she walks it starts bleeding again. The vet flushed it out yesterday when she removed the packing and brought out loads of gunk by all accounts

The idea is to try and get it to dry out from and heal from the inside out rather as an ulcer would heal

Friend not looking forward to vet bill as fees not covered

ETA Still not found out what she managed to injure herself on. The very unpleasant thought that it may have been done deliberately has occurred. Don't think we will ever know for sure to be honest

Poor pony Same thing happened to my daughters pony a couple of years ago. Great big hole in his neck. Nothing in the field that could have caused it and we never found out how he had done it. We could only conclude that somebody had done it to him. We were in Surrey at the time.

Took a while to heal. Did exactly the same, anitbiotics and waited for it to heal from the inside.

Completely recovered now and all that is left is a small indentation in his neck.

Hope your friends pony gets better soon.

lauradaura I'm sorry your daughters pony has gone through this too. Its awful

Do you have any pictures of the wound please? - sort of a before and after type thing?
