Im thinking that its about time I sorted out my dressage saddle. My current one is a Bates, not personal choice was a bit of a weird situation but got it as an insurance 'payout' and just kept it. Its a lovely saddle, very comfy but just not for me...its also in mint condition and has been very well looked after. I would need to part-ex it or sell on ebay or something to fund a new one but would like recommendations please.

I remember riding in an Albion when I was waiting for my insurance payout a few years ago and loved it but no idea what model it was and Im sure there have been newer and better saddles since.

OOOOooooo glad you asked this...........have just sold my Bate Dressage Saddle to a friend(it was also immaculate), but my horse didn't go as well in it as her horse, so am now hankering after a new one. I was thinking Albion or maybe a Cliff Barnsby (as my GP is a Barnsby). I will watch this post with interest.

BTW when I looked on Ebay a few weeks ago Bates saddles in excellent condition were all selling for btw £550 & £700 (if that helps).

Barnsby's are lovely saddles and you can have them M2M through Barnsby direct for reasonable ££. I would go for one of these if I was in the market for a new one

Ideal do dressage saddles in every variation imaginable with many different trees so there should be one to fit you both.
Alway liked Barnby's before I switched to Ideal to.

Not an Albion!!!! (I went through about 3 in 6months - and all new)

I have a Amerigo which is lovely - the KN's are also ment to be really nice. Black country are quite good too.

Interesting you say that as I was looking at the Ideal saddles and am also quite short which is why I think most dressage saddles just don't quite 'fit' me.

Do they have their own fitting service or would I need to go through another saddler? I know my local saddlers don't usually stock much so am prepared that I may need to pay someone to travel further.

Contrary to what hellsspells says, I have an Albion SLK bought it on the tail end of last season spet-oct time, and I love it, looks as good as new, but I suppoes as with anything, you good ones and bad ones! You just have to sit on them and try!
