Well after last weeks Saturday mornings "field break" this week just as i am leaving the yard - 7.30am i notice a tree down - i stop the car and walk over to find an old tree has come down overnight and the fence to the very fast lane is now about 2ft high !
Just as i am trying to herd 3 of the horses into the next field, another one gets let out at the top field gate - GREAT ! - well here is were Mr Schoolmaster came into his own.
Shep is his new name! whilst i ran to stop the 4th horse from getting through the middle gate, he was herding the other two in front of him and upto me. He did not know why but had been following me pushing the others up to the gateway.
I stood arm waving the gateway and he pushed them through - then i had 4 rather excieted horses in one field, a tree down in the field behind and a gate that was pinned back to try and shut.
I shouted to "Shep" to STAND in a very firm voice and he stood blocking the gate way, batting off a couple of attempts from the others.... it was fantastic.
I got to the gate, and unpinned it and swung it accross - mission accomplished. Shep got a carrot and a love for being such a good "dog" and i will never ever know how he knew what to do - maybe they really can read minds !
