Partridge shooting on Saturday and we had a team of guns from America who were guests of the shoot owners.

They also shot on the Friday and turned up to be introduced to their instructor and loader..........it turns out.........they had never, ever held a gun in their life!!!! The instructors told them how to hold their gun, they even asked "where do the bullets go again" (in an American drawl). They were told they were shooting partridge and they didn't know what that was, so the Gamekeeper had to get one out of the chiller and show them!!!!!

All the beaters had to wear fluorescent jackets just to be on the safe side and I saw loaders pushing their guns up because they were shooting in the banks.

It beggars belief really doesn't it?

Anyway, my daughter worked Toby and he was an absolute star for her, not once did he run to me or bring me his bird, he knew that Daughter was his Mummy for the day - bless him.

As usual my Spaniel was excellent and we are really getting the hang of presenting the bird to hand (but not all the time!). It was so sunny and hot the dogs got really exhausted but luckily there is a stream at every drive for them to cool off.

Finsihed at 1pm because the Americans had planes to catch at 2pm followed by a lovely roast chicken lunch and champagne (kindly donated by the guns).

They also raised £4000 for charity as a forfeit for every pheasant shot! (£1000 for each pheasant!).

How the other live eh?

How is everyone else doing this season so far and I still want to hear about show/agility/flyball, etc updates

Amazed they turned up having never shot before! How many birds did you get?

Well done to Toby, hope he isn't too stiff as I remember you saying he's been having problems? Flynn sounds like a wonderful dog

LOL - sounds like a good one!!!

Toby (fingers crossed, touch wood etc) seems to be holding out remarkably well. That extra cartrophen injection appears to have worked wonders. Obviously this is no guarantee that he will last the season but as long as he is still happy and mobile, I will keep taking him (or daughter seems to want to pinch him!)

We've had so called experienced guns down on our shoot before who seem to think beaters are game ... well there's no second chances when it comes to loaded shotguns thats for sure ... there's been more than one occasion guns have had a little word from me in the form of "TOO LOW" shouted rather loudly!!

Even had people being asked to put their gun in the slip before .....

Oo, can I be a member of the country bumpkins clique. i've never been in a clique before!

We haven't started yet, OH is clay shooting this weekend at some local charity do, he thinks I will be coming to it but TBH I find clays boring and just noisy, I'd rather be riding my horse if my gammy knee allows!
