Hiya I am just mulling over what exactly to wear next weekend when I do some inhand showing. Horse is brown and is a TB. I have beige trousers, will have to wear jodphur boots underneath though as don't have any long ones to fit, or shoes that will match colour. Was going to wear brown or black boots, with a preference for brown. I have my shirt now and also a tie. I did have a tweedy jacket but now having looked at it, I don't think it is suitable as it has a round neck and would have to move buttons slightly too. Damned my boobs, I just hate them. Anyway I was thinking about getting a waistcoat to wear instead as I am struggling with the money I have available ( and due to chest size) in getting a suitable tweed jacket. I have looked at the showing site someone very kindly put up for me the other day and it was brill. But alas it didn't say about what colour waistcoats could be worn. My hat will be black velvet by the way as well. I have read so far that gold/mustard yellow or burgundy are colours to probably go for. Am I correct or are other colours ok as well? It is a local show but I know people do dress prim and proper, so don't want to look like the proverbial mutton. Would I also get away with a gent's waistcoat if need be as I am struggling to find ones in my size, around 18/20, or 22 depending on the chest size. Or would I be frowned upon. I don't have a large budget to go on at all.
Any help/comments would be appreciated
thanks

Hi there,
I now have a green one to go with my green tweed flat cap, bought it for £2.00 at the charity shop and its a gents, and i am showing county standard and looks very smart.
Have a hunt around and hope you get a bargain, so long as its smart it should be fine.
Teresa

Thanks

I hit the charity shops today and tried on a brill green tweed men's coat, but it wouldn't go around my bust

Spot on colour too as well. I'm planning on taking a trip to some other's tomorrow in another town as Newcastle didn't really have that much choice. Wrong time of year to be looking there I reckon as they tend to kit out the shops according to season. Well done on your bargains though, sounds a very good buy at that price

Mustard, mustard check, navy, burgandy and red are the most common colours in waistcoats, but there isn't any strict rules on it so if you are going to get one then I'd go with whatever colour you really want

In-hand turnout is much more varied and less strict than the ridden classes.

A little cheeky to link you to my own site, but these are the photos I took of the in-hand classes at the Royal Highland this year. It's got lots of examples of the various things people wear so might help spark some inspiration, and this is at higher level so people should be more forgiving at a lower level

Thanks so much for them. It was really useful. Lovely pics too of some fab horses and ponies

It really gives me some ideas now of what I can safely look for. Like I said I have never shown before so don't want to look out of place. I am hoping horsey will behave herself lol as she can be a little spirited now she is in full health. I know my boys will be fine as they are laid back, but the TB can get a bit edgy at times lol.
She came to me in such a state having lost a foal and was covered in lice that I would like to show her as she has undergone such a transformation. It will be a nice day out for her. If we can win a rosette then it will make it extra special as I think this little lady deserves it.
She has gone in 5 months from this
