Well I did it again I took Herbs showjumping. :)
This time the monsters on the hack over were still in bed. Maybe they knew what was coming ;)
After a nice plod over as soon as we arrived at the venue it started to rain  I thought it was just a passing shower and entered the first class and the shower stopped :) As usual the show was very unorganised. The classes were ment to start at 10 but we didn't start walking the course till 10.30  I worked out where the jumps were and got back on Herbie and waited for the class to start. In the mean time it started to pour down with rain. We waited for everyone else to walk the course and I put my number down to jump first.
By the time I went in the rain had eased off alittle. But the ground was very slippy due to it being on a slope and the grass being quite long. I took my round steady as I always just aim for a double clear anyway. Herbie was prity annoyed at the rain so he was being alittle nappy and when I approached fence 5, the wall down hill, I felt him slipping. At this moment I lost my bottle and pulled him up right infront of the jump. I turned round and took him twords it again and after a little nap he popped over it :) We finished the course without further trouble. So no clear round this week, but it was my fault. I did feel abit braver till that point and after it to, so I don't think any harm has been done and I think pulling up was better than herbs slipping, me falling off and never wanting to jump again ;)
Heres the video of our round.

Then as we weren't going to get a rosette I thought I'd pop him round the clear round just so we had something to take home. ;) :p My OH went to the secretary and paid my £2.50. We toddled over to the clearround ring and there was a kid on a big pony struggling to get over the jumps. We waited till she finaly finished her round. The jumps were a good hight for me but the girl didn't leave the ring, instead her mum went in and started putting the jumps up higher  By now it had started peeing down again :( I looked down by the side of the ring and could see any rosettes  So when the ring steward finaly came back from helping put the jumps up I asked if they were doing rosettes for the clear round. She said "NO as we don't have any left"
 This was right at the begining of the day they obviously didn't check before the show  Herbs was getting prity annoyed at waiting and as we weren't going to get a ribbon anyway I desided it wasn't worth it and left.
We had a very wet ride home.
Honestly there are some very relaxed and friendly shows out there, then theres this place. I wish I had transport and I'd go to a properly run show instead. Hayho atleast I think it's all helping my confidance :)
Those who follow my posts, Except for the blip at fence 5 do you think I'm looking more confidant than before.
Thankyou for reading my post and watching my video. I love my little man He's the best :D xx

Well done for having a go and to keep going! I also thought you looked really smart as well!.

Just a couple of ideas to help make your life easier? You are working really hard to keep your pony going so need to work on your transitions. Stick a neck rein on ( stirrup leather or similiar) around his neck and tap him up and let him go forward. The neck rein is there for you so you don't grab him by accident but let him move forward. Practise this to make him gor forward, off your leg and stops making you work so hard! Can you try some work at home without stirrups? Even if someone puts you on a lunge? Really would help to secure you in the saddle and give you more confidence. Finally (!) as your lose your contact, your creating energy and then by having no contact, it's like putting the heating in and leaving the front door open. I am a great fan of neck reins as means you have something to grab without upsetting your horse and we pretty much always them on all the babies. Try to keep your reins a little shorter and with a more consistent contact for him to go into.

I hope you got some nice pictures of today. I thought your own turn out was of a really high standard and really good that you keep thinking forward and it's a very big deal that your pony wasn't too bothered about the fillers. So a lot to be really proud of and hopefully some ideas to make your life easier...and keep going!

Luci07 Thanks for the reply. You're right about my riding in the ring. I'm so nervous it all falls appart but it's getting better :o At home i'm not so bad ;) I ride him bareback quite alot. Riding him on the lunge is not an option ;) As soon as you put the lungeline on him he lies down :p  He's a lazy nappy little toad but it's all getting better and hopefuly as my confidace grows my riding at shows will improve to. I'm lucky he jumps for me realy ;) Anything else would refuse. :o He's such a star in his own funny little way bless him.

Yes,well done for having a go:) Just wondered, is the fly veil not a bit big for your pony? Seemed to maybe obscure her vision a bit! Those type don't usually come down far enough to touch the eyes.:)

Venevidivici thankyou :). lol it does come down quite far :p but he can still see it's the only one I could find with the tassles on. He definatly doesn't get flys in his eyes with that one ;) :p :D

Agh...I am NOT critiquing you! I hate negatively when someone is actually getting off their backside and really trying. Please look at my comments as ideas to help you progress further..!

Well done! Shame about the weather though

£2.50 a clear round  I'm well jel, it's at least double that here :( Rather prohibitive really.

Saying that, towards the end your contact did get better. It looks to me like he's going a bit slow (that might be because I'm used to seeing fast ponies) so maybe try smacking with the whip behind the leg for impulsion and on the shoulder when he naps :)

OP i think you did really well especially considering that you must have been in soggy breeches :( I have seen you posts and I would agree that you are riding more positively in front of the fences now, I would suggest trying to keep that positivity the whole round and building up the energy in the corners. The transitions Luci07 suggested should mean you don't have to work so hard- I have a lazy toad too  and I have to be quite firm with him i ask once if no response i immediately ask again with a quick flick of the schooling whip- eventually you hardly have to use the whip.

I read it as encouraging , and good advise! I'm a proud member of the neck strap crew too ;)

I struggled with the concept of 'contact' too but I have a new trainer which has helped me so much and now I don't need to work so hard. Your heating front door comment was spot on!

I'm sorry if you took my reply the wrong way  I did thankyou for the reply. It is good advice. I was just saying i'm aware of my faults (the many that I have) The ones you mentioned and others. I ride worse at shows as i am genuinly terrified of jumping. Untill recently I threw up at the thought of going over a pole on the floor. So to be out jumping at a show is a real leap forwards for me. I honestly ride so much better at home. My riding at a show is improving as my confidance grows. This is only our 3rd showjumping show. Sorry again if you took my reply the wrong way. I honestly didn't take offence to yours. If I saw someone elses video with the same riding I would have given the same advice.

JFTD Thanks. It's normaly £3 a round should have twigged the no rosettes sooner  I deff wouldn't pay anymore than that. Esp with my school at home ;) :p :D

AntxGeorgiax Thankyou :)

nikCscott Thankyou. I ride alot of trantions at home. Always been my mantra (Lucy was a lazy toad to ;) :p ) He goes much more forwards at home now :). I'm just so tense at shows. Loose rein contact, lean back to far, flap my legs like a mad leg flapping person and who knows what my arms are upto :o All this stops him going forwards even if he wanted to. I think it all seems to be getting better as my confdance grows. Next show is in 2 weeks. Hopefuly it'll be even better then :D
