Well on Sunday Herbs and I hacked over to the jumping show again.
Got there for 10 which is when the class is supposed to start ;) Entered the first class and let Herbs have a munch on some grass. They finaly opened the course for walking at 10:45  I worked out where all the fences were and hopped back on Herbs and got him going again. Popped the practce fence and waited for our turn to go in. Someone else got in there first so I went second.
It wasn't to bad. I messed up going into the double as it didn't have a ground line and I paniced. Jumped the first part well to the right and nearly missed the second part. But Herbs put us right :D I made the same stupid error in the jump off :o But Herbs was ace appart from a nap going passed the gate  I was so pleased with a double clear and our jumpoff time was under 40 seconds :D

Two other people got double clears after me so I was expecting to get 3rd place. They called out the results in reverse order and when they called 3rd place they didn't call my name. I thought there must have been some mistake and they've missed me off the results :( Then it was announced "In 2nd place is Laura Wheeler riding Herbie forest fox" We weren't the slowest double clear :D Thats a huge improvment.

I am so proud of my little man. I was smiling the whole way home and am still smiling now :D :D

Please no crit. I'm fully aware of ALL my crapness. It's due to the fact that i'm terrified of jumping. Also for those who are unaware. When I took this pony on his was agressive and unridable and I was told to just sell him on for meat. Very few people thought we would ever get to this stage. :D :D
Words cannot describe how much this little guy means to me. He's come so far since I first met him and i'm so proud to call him mine.

Thanks for reading my post and watching the video. :D xx

Well done to you and your Herbie - must have been a really magic moment for you and worth all the hard work you have put in together. He is looking like an angel in the video and so smart, a real credit to you and not Horrid at all.:)

Just a thought, do you use a neckstrap at all? just wondering as you wrote you are terrified of jumping, and a neckstrap would help.

Congratulations to both of you and I am going to look up your previous posts. How long have you had him I wonder?

Thanks :D

I don't use a neckstrap as I wouldn't hold onto it and I had years of teaching children who clung to the neckstrap and refused to let go. I used to tell them that a neckstrap won't stop you falling off if your falling you are falling. So it wouldn't help my confidance :o I'm much happyer about jumping at home now i just need to work on my confidance at shows :)

I've had Herbs for nearly 3 years he is sooooooooooooooo much better than when I first got him but he can still be horrid if he wants to be but I love him anyway ;) :D

This is our story.

Looks like you have worked very hard with him. A neck strap won't necessarily stop you from falling off but it will help stop you getting left behind. Try to keep your hand still too ;-) Have you also thought about spurs? On the right legs they would back up your aids and prevent the flap flapping and as you kick the hands move too.

Keep at it - looking good!

mcnaughty thankyou :D

Am a bit reluctant to use spurs as my legs actualy come below his belly :o So to use the spurs I would need to bring my heal up and I am only just able to smack him without him trying to buck me off. ;) My legs flap all the time but most of the time I'm not actualy kicking him  It's a nervous thing and i'm trying to work on it also the hands to.
He's a lazy oick but to be fair he does have to hack for over an hour to get to the show and the show ground is on a slope (Not that i'm making excuses up for him ;) :p :D )

Oh wow Laura, what a FANTASTIC result, well done you and Herbs! :D

You recovered so well at the double, and did so well convincing him to keep going when he had decided he had done enough - total superstar.

Any more outings planned, or is that it now for the winter? xx

Thanks sprout Hope you are ok.

we are showjumping again on Sunday (If it's stopped raining again by then ;) ) Then the next Sunday there isn't any jumping but the Sunday after that is the last one of the season :( Trying to get hold of a meet card though as want to take him hunting again through the winter and also trying to sorce some transport as would love to do some more dressage at some point. Sadly I have loads of offers to borrow peoples trailers but don't have a viechle to tow with :(. May save up lots of pennies and hire a horsebox for the day. :)

Hi Laura,

You know I'm more of a lurker, but I can't miss an opportunity to say hello and a massive WELL DONE to both of you!!!!

He's such a dude, and you ride him so positively!!!

He's such a credit to you, and shows how much patience and hard work can achieve!!

Congratulations!!

RM + mini RM x x x

Wow Herbie has come on so much since I last read a post about him! Well done.

Btw was that sj at Bagnum? If so you must live very close to me as I occasionally hack there too!

redmone hello Hope alls well with you. Thankyou Herbs is a dude. Well worth all the hard work. :D There was a picture going round facebook that said "It's the difficult horses who have the most to give" Or something along those lines. I believe thats so true. ;) :D :D

Charem thankyou and yes It is bagnum :D It's about an hour hack for the shortarse pony. ;) :p :D

What a great story! Video is a credit to you sticking with him. Poor little bugger must have had a pretty c*&p start and to see him trusting and bonding with you is lovely :)

Thankyou nicnac :D Sadly I don't think i'll ever know his full story. Everytime I find someone who seems to know him they are very reluctant to give me any info on his passed :( and I only want to know so i can help the poor chap get over his issues :(
Luckly he found his way to me and he will never have to worry again. I won't let anything bad happen to him now. He's such a special chap who deserves every chance I can give him. :D

What a lovely story on a miserable Monday...just keep doing what your doing it seems to be working wonders...he looks a very happy chappy!

Awww well done. Confidence will come as you go out more (My OH asked me last year why I compete, as I spent the time before competing dry heaving) but now I go down, get pony ready and I'm excited, and the nerves have mostly gone.

It's so nice to see videos of the horrid one as I've seen some of your pictures and read all about him on here, but these are the first videos I've seen of him.

He is a real credit to you. Fab result. x

Thanks guys :D

fidleyspromise Thats what i'm hoping :) Years ago I used to take Lucy showjumping nearly every weekend and we'd pop round a 3ft course. I was still nervous but nowhere near as bad as I am now. I'm just so out of practice. I'm out again next weekend if it's not raining. I feel excited about going till I get there and that is a huge step forwards in my confidance. Before I was full of dread leading upto the show. :o
