At the moment I am feeding mine chicken wings/drumsticks four times a week and the Duck stuff three times a week, sometimes with an egg on top (about twice a week).

Is this enough bone content for them? Is this enough balance for them? Come to that is it enough vegetables?

Tomorrow I am going to MAKE myself go to the butchers and see if I can get some deals from them - it sounds so obvious :o but what do you actually ask for?

Sorry for all these questions...and thank you for your patience :o:D

Ask for chook carcases, after most of the meat is removed, lamb "flaps",ox heart..or lambs,I cook those, though there is no need.Ox cheek or head meat is great too. Anything in their waste bins is what you can use!

I think that, if you think about the contents of most dry kibbles, that's already infinitely more variety than most dogs get from complete foods - so don't panic! :)

I posted recently about other things to ask for from the butchers and after having a quick chat with him the other day came up with the following things which are very cheap:

Pork ribs
Tripe
Lamb hearts
Liver and kidneys

A large meal's worth of any of those is under £1. He'll also do me a large carrier bag full of meat scraps for £1 - it does take a bit of sorting through to discard any unsuitable bits (the ends of a garlic sausage might have disastrous consequences :p) but the majority was good, just the bony/fatty offcuts and anything due to be thrown out including chicken pieces and liver. Big bones with lots of marrow in are supplied by the bag for free and she gets a surprising amount out of those too.

Morrisons was also pretty good, I made a special trip there after recommendations on here and got whole trouts, lambs hearts and a few other bits very cheaply. :)

Thanks a lot EastKent and BC :) I am going to copy all the suggestions down and go into the butchers with a notepad tomorrow :p:D

I think we have a Morrisons quite locally, suppose I had better investigate there too

If you ask them to get you "Breast of Lamb" it is very cheap and has a good amount of meat and bone, pigs trotters are also good. Lamb leg bones are good beef can be too hard, pork can be a little rich if you feed too much, it makes mine fart! Any rabbit they have or pheasant in season as well. Basically all the cheap stuff and the waste.

Dont feed them tripe unless they can eat it outside - the stuff smells vile! I bought some for Andy and it made the house smell for days even though it was only around for a few minutes, once he turned his nose up at it I got rid of it ASAP lol
