did anyone wonder why the time was so excessively generous? the only time penalties all day were from those with run outs. just asking.

Seemed to me unusual given that most comps have the riders chasing the clock at that level, made a nice change to see the horses being presented properly, instead of being rushed, and to me, the result came on jumping the fences, not on the clock.

Yes, I did too - reckon it was miscalculated by 2 secs. However I thought most of them were moving on freely at the right speed which hasn't always been the case. I think the time was arguably too tight at a couple of earlier events.

It was a very forward course - they really only had to check at the related distances - the correct speed was probably used but the time appeared lenient due to the way the course rode. Remember we are used to the course building genius of Bob Ellis!

The time was commented on duing the competition. Time was expected to be tight - it was set that way. Alan said at the start of the competition that time would be a factor. However it certainly was a forward course so that may have made the difference. They did use the official speed measurements apparently. So it seems that it was the way it rode that made it generous.
