hes damaged the tendon sheath just above the knee (the bald area)
hes taken a kick to it and also come through / over the paddock fence you can see behind him.
he didn't mean to sort of slipped in boggy bit at the bottom and couldn't slow down (it was like watching the high jumpers, he went over backwards).
the swelling on his knee was like a football straight away. i was there at the time trying to get him out of the field he was being chased.

Gosh Leanne.

His leg is really still quite swollen isn't it? After the surgical flushing of Patches tendon sheath she had to wear a robert jones bandage for three weeks.
(day after surgery)

(week later)

This was taken an hour or so after the cast was removed

These were a month post surgery, to the day.

That swelling quickly disappeared though once she was being walked out in hand.

Good luck with Alfie.

its the fibrous tissue thats my main worry, in the second pic his knee is bent so it makes it look worse than when its on the floor. but the swelling and flexion is still bad imo after so long, but vet says carry on what were doing and times a healer.
troted him up up today and in a stright line hes sound but sort of shuffles it round when turning. (like stiffness i put this down to flexion though)
i was wondering if a physio or someone may beable to help him.
if anyone knows of someone around s yorks pm me please.

patches wound looks really nice and healed and theres not as much swelling as alfies either is there.

ps has it gone back to normal now.

I can't find the pictures of it before she had surgery. Doing my head in looking for them!!!!!

Her knee was HUGE before she had surgery. The infection was clearly very quickly removed and the knee started going back down to normal.

I've had an osteo today who looked all over Patches limbs as part of the treatment. She couldn't tell Patches had a problem with that knee at all, although I did mention it to her after she'd checked the limbs. Her knee is perfectly back to normal. I can, if I'm being picky, feel a very slight (and I mean slight) thickening to the tendon across the front of her knee, but that's all. Not that noticeable if it wasn't detected today.

god thats great, i hope alfies goes back to normal, the vet said it will. but when looking at the scan he said he has never seen a horse with as much damage to its tendon sheath that wasn't hopping lame. which is why he wasn't treating him for that in the first place.

the wall to the tendon sheath is damaged and has swollen out so on the scan it shows large black areas thats damage, but it never got infected. but he had enough drugs in the first few days to knock out 3 elephants, good job i got stocked up on penicillin injections ect as he had a double dose straight away plus very strong cow pain killer.

only experiment with stem cell treatment but my wallet's not that deep and theres not even a 50% chance that it will make it better.
he said to take the bone marrow about £1500 then send it away to cultivate cells £1000 then put it back in £1500.
plus starting all over again with box rest.

or could have lazer treatment but again wont do much, could heal a third faster than natually.

im already knocking up £1500 now in vet bills for him so not really an option really.
