The good news is that the cream is soothing the lump on Hippo's side.

The bad news is that I found another lump this morning whilst grooming her. It is on the left hand side of her neck, just down from her jawline, and is about the size of a ping pong ball. It's internal, but so far it is not affecting her ability to eat/breath/drink, etc. It is very painful to touch however.

The vet examined her very thoroughly on Wednesday and it wasn't present then, so it has developed rapidly. I noticed she was grumpy yesterday, but found no swelling then. I check her every day; have done since I bought her.

I will get the vet out again to check it over, hopefully tomorrow, but Tuesday at the latest. Suspect that an internal exam may be needed, possibly surgery too.

Am going to bits at the moment:(

Oh no, poor you and poor Hippo! :(
You've done the right thing getting the vet out, and hopefully it won't be anything too serious...
Sending you both big hugs!

Thanks; the riding centre staff and fellow liveries have been very supportive. The manager was able to explain the likely progression of this latest one. She's seen it happen before. Apparently the vet I'm with is the best in our area for dealing with it, so that's good.

Hippo was very brave today and walked through three puddles of her own accord...then peed on my OH's foot:o

Poor Hippo. :(

Would you believe it but I've had a terrible time with a lump on the brown cat's neck. He then started to get fluid gathering under his skin in his chin, neck and chest. After a lot of worry and having clipped a section of fur away, it was decided that it was an infected lymph node. He's been on anti-b's for a few days and everything is returning to normal. :)

Fingers crossed that Hippo's new lump is an easy fix too. :)

Poor Brown Cat - glad he is on the mend! Hoping that this won't turn out to be another melanoma, but all the signs are there:(

On a positive note, she now lifts all four hooves and stands like an angel to be picked out. This used to involve arguing, so I'm pleased.

A lump in that area could be any number of things. As ylou say a melanoma. Is she well in herself? As there are lymph nodes in that area (where I think you are describing) although they would tend to be bigger than lymph node size-have you felt the other side of her jaw?

Oh very sorry to read this - I missed your previous update. I hope it is not another melanoma. I would say though that our little grey mare has some lumps in her neck which I am pretty sure are melanomas and she is 28 and so far they have not bothered her.
Did the vet that did the original vetting have anything to say about his mistake? Sorry if you have already answered this on a previous post I just wondered.

It's definitely just on the one side. Aside from this, she seems to be thriving. So fingers crossed that it turns out to be something simple. just feels like one step forwards and two steps back at the moment!

Original vet's opinion was that the lump on her side was a flybite that had been rubbed/irritated by poorly fitting tack. They had said to let them know if it ever changed shape/started bleeding. But when it did flare up, I was moving yards, and ended up outside their catchment area. Plus responses on here to photos of the original lump. Hence decision to go with different vet.
