Hi, my horse shied in his stable two months ago, sat on his bum and bolted out of the stable and cut both if his back legs, just above the coronet band with his front feet!
Anyway after two weeks the mild swelling didn't go, he wasn't lame, but I got the vet out as I wanted to sell him. He was ment to box rest for two weeks with bute but wouldn't stay in, the swelling went down but in the past couple of weeks it's come back up again and again he's not lame.
The vet said last time if it doesn't go they may need to x-ray him.
I'm now 7 months pregnant and I'm
either going to turn him away for 4 months or part loan him.
Shall I just see if it goes down or spend more money, il have to make a claim on my insurance. Obviously with a baby on the way I'm money conscious but I also need to make sure this goes down as I want to sell him in February.
What should I do?

surely you will have to declare to the insurance it has happened anyway, so you may as well get to the bottom of the problem now, especially if you want to sell, he will have to be sound for that.

I am not clear why you will wait till February before selling, as it will cost a fair bit to keep him, and you can't be sure he will sell... however that is another matter really.
Obviously vet has to do something, but me I would leave for 6-8 weeks, unshod but trimmed, and see how it goes.

I want a good price as he is a very nice horse but I won't be riding myself until about December and he won't sell very well just before the winter. I think il just have to chuck any vet bill on my credit card and pray the insurance will pay out for all of it.
