Another visit last night ...

Wish we could DoWhatWeLikies to them! :D It does make me mad though. Don't suppose the helpful ploddies have done much either

The Police log it, give a crime reference number and add it to the list, they admit themselves they know exactly who are responsible but there is nothing they can do about it, apparently. We have over the years had several visits. They had our leather headcollars left hung up outside the stables overnight, and two stable rugs airing over the doors while we were riding, even a ten foot field roller which they winched out over a locked gate in broad daylight. We lock everything away now, but the electric fence was just sat in the field announcing its presence with its flashing light!

I feel your pain!

My husband has managed to attach a very thick chain and padlock to ours so we can chain it and the battery (one with a handle) to the fence. We've previously had 2 stolen but have managed to hold on to this one for 3 years now which is definately a record!

We had one stolen too. We simply don't use it in the far field now. We did get a cast iron lockable chest, which hubby was going to fill at the bottom with concrete, and a hole at the back for the wires to come out of, but we haven't got round to it.

When we replaced ours at the local farm shop, they said 75% of what they sell are to replace stolen ones (perhaps it was them!!).

The chances of getting it back are pretty remote but we had a result when they knicked our plastic feed bins (dustbins) one dark night (Left feed behind)! One of the kids had marked them with our postcode so when they happened to knick the offenders as they were commiting their crime of ram raiding a supermarket and reversing up to the cigarette counter and chucking all the cigarettes in to the bins we got the bins back after the court case. (They were used as evidence).

Also our nice local rural police officer does like to stop suspicious looking people and if the stuff in the back of their vans/trucks can be identified as to who the wrightful owner is they eventually get them back.

Moral of story is Poscode everything with your home postcode and even better mark them with Smartwater as well

Ours went walkies!! then we saw it on ebay a week later! It had a broken handle so I know it was mine but of course couldn't prove it! they only got £40 for it

My boy now hope from field to field (well limbos) unhindered - I'm not going to fuel them and I don't like the thought of them wandering into the fields with my boys in.

Unfortunately our fields are not that near to the house, and knowing that thieving lot the poor geese would probably end up in a pot!

Ive had them go walkabout before now, apparently they had everyones in a 4-5 miles radius! Got mine in my feedroom now i have the fence line going through a gap in the wall with some hosepipe insulating the wall to stop it earthing when its wet. Works a treat and makes it less visable / easy pickings, the thought of someone snooping about is more worrying, you never know whats going to go missing next, would hate them letting the horses out too.

Thats how I feel, the thought of them snooping around my horses makes me feel sick. I even put old rugs on mine last night and put them in the back field which I was saving for the winter. I expect I will relax again in a couple of days but at the moment I'm on 'high alert'!!

Ha God forbid we get in the way of them 'relocating' our property. At a previous yard they were always snooping around pretty scary to be honest, I came face to face with a car load of them having a look at the horses and yard..and the YO caught them cutting off the padlocks and chains one day, in broad daylight.. they got in their car, drove off waving and the car was later found burnt out down the road.. grrrrrrrrrrrr

Funny you should say that, I've just found a promo code that discounts their (SmartWater) £60 annual membership down to a one-off of £25 quid - 'RT204' for Domestic use. Seems to work for the moment, worth a pop to put these vile miscreants off!!

Worth being on high alert - they often come back in a week to pick up the nice shinny new replacement you've bought!!

They did this with me .... took batteries, rugs, head collars .... then left the top gate open directly onto the railway :( .... I replaced batteries, fence unit, 1 rug and 1 head collar and lead rope and they came back 2.5 week later and did the same again :( .... i found a new place and moved my horses that week. Robbing thieving swines ..... worst thing was how sweated up my horses were ... god only knows what they had done/tried to do :(

OOOPS I forgot to say, doesn't work on their normal online shop - try affinity.smartwater.tv, amazing what you can pull up with some tactful googling!!

if u use smartwater, u also want to write "Smart watered" in big permanent letters on the item too. The smartwater domestic kit doesn't include many smartwater stickers and if you don't indicate that it's smartwatered, then the thief won't know and so may still take it.
