my old yard closed down so about a month ago i moved to current yard, £25 a week stable + field, no hacking except roadwork and my boy doesnt like heavy traffic so cant really hack out, arena planned, all winter turnout, 8 miles from house

option has just arisen to move to another yard i had enquired about when looking round, 2 miles (5mins) from home, but have to be in at night, arena planned, hacking straight out onto miles and miles of off road hacking (can get onto hacking used to do at old yard) £65 a month, but have to be kept in at night over winter

which would you choose?

I'd go for b if you ride during the winter, a or b if you don't - but then I generally bring in overnight in the winter anyway. Does your boy have any health/character reasons why he is better out overnight in winter, or do you think he would settle to coming in overnight? If he would settle to the idea, then I would go for b like a shot - the hacking sounds ace!!

Option 2 , why pay for a stable you do not use, no hacking or arena, so are you riding at all.
If you have to stable at night for a few months at least you will be getting some pleasure by being able to ride when you want to.

im sorry but i can understand why you're questioning :p:p from what you're describing, you are getting something better for a LOT cheaper :) I'd go for b, horses at our yard have NO turnaout in winter and the majority of yards don't allow 24/7 turnout during winter. the hacking seems a BIG bonus too I'd go for it! :D

Unless you know that your horse gets very stressed being stabled then definitely 2nd yard :) Otherwise you are paying for a stable you don't use and a horse you can't ride!
