Nothing stunning to report, but still quite a pleasing day..

Orla in the intro..
Excuses first, poor Orla has no stud holes, and while the ground was perfect, it was like an ice rink if you didn't have any studs in, (rock hard followed by a night of heavy rain).. anyway, she did an average test for her, but the judge still seemed to like it, so we were about 5th after dressage.. SJing was pretty poor, she slipped and slid all over the place, and really lost her confidance, we had 3 down

but to be honest, if felt lucky to be only that many, as it was a horrid round!!. The XC i felt was fairly big for an intro, so with the disaster of the SJing in my mind, i wasnt looking forwards to the XC... bless her tho, she proved me wrong, and gave me a fab ride, flew round for a lovely clear!!.. we did get about 9 time faults tho.. she can gallop well enough, but she's like the QE2, you have to start setting up for each jump miles away

Sula in the PN...
In a total reversal of Orla, we were really pleased with Sula's test, but the judge hated it, we got a 39 which left us about 4th from bottom

dressage judges really don't like her for some reason!!
SJing, she jumped well enough, but reverted to her racing days and went a bit flat at two, so had two down...
XC, seeing as this was only a prep run for Aldon, and we wern't exactly in for a prize, i said i'd go steady xc.. XC is Sula's forte
grin.gif
she's only little, an ex-racehorse, doesn't take a pull at all, and has a stride that really covers the ground.. So me thinking i was going really slowly, ended up getting 4 time faults

So nothing great to report

but everyone was still pretty pleased

Orla is being shod before B&W.. so will hopefully have a little more grip

Was in a world of my own prasing my mare probs!!

Sorry dont know who Kelly Smith is but she may have been someone with my mares old owners as they came to watch her. I brought her from Cathy Woods head groom/girl, if that rings any bells!!

Day went OK, i was 9th but we had a fair few problems!!

Well we just met the fence on a duff stride and so she went long when usually she will chip alittle stride in!! She is a typical teenage horse at 7, but if you tell her what to do she usually dose the opposite!! But we kinda paddled mind air and she got her legs tangled in the fence cos it was rather airy, stumbled on landing and i went flying!!
grin.gif

Anyway was then sent off to see the doctor when i was completly fine and they let me start the xc!!
So it was quite eventfull!! I then blame the 4 time penalties on us both being shook up and me wondering how confident she was but after the step up to roll top she really got into her stride and wizzed round the rest!!

One of those mildly character building days then? Hate riding without studs, especially when you've asked the owners to put them in, turned over on the flat once with a rather expensive horse in that situation. Still, best to get the niggles out the way before Aldon.

Is Orla the one you did not think much of? Sounds like she did pretty well today. On to Bath & West lets hope the rain calms down or it will be a quagmire on the Sunday.

It's not so much that i didn't think anything of her.. just that it took her rather a long time to work out how to lift her whole body off the ground over a fence.. she only really got the hang of 'jumping' in July, and that was only at 2'3..
