Is it me, or has this winter been a bad winter? It just seems to be so much wetter, I dont think its been colder than normal here, if anything I think its been warmer (apart from the snow of course!).

I'm not sure if it seems like this as this is our first winter in the new place (and we were certainly unprepared in some respects, like the yard!!) or if it really has been worse????

We were talking about this with the hay merchant yesterday and it does seem to have gone on for longer than usual. We are going through double the usual amount of hay and he confirmed that they have never had to deliver so much.

Also our fields are wetter than usual (we are fortunate that we are on well drained land) and have been unable to get out and poo pick except for a few days. In previous years we have been able to get out at least twice a week.

No it is'nt you - it has been colder, wetter and very very long from my perspective up in Northumberland!! Roll on spring (please!!)

Same in North Yorkshire, we have had enough now and would just like some dry weather so we are not knee deep in mud!

Our fields are saturated. We are on clay and they are just completely poached with puddles of water everywhere. OH declared it a swamp last night!

But as its out first winter here, I wasn't sure if was because of the weather.....land owners did say they had never seen it so wet.

My yard (which is to be done this summer) is currently a bog!

***does roll on spring dance***

We've had a lot of snow, and the ground has not thawed since before Christmas so it has been consistently colder for longer than usual with none of the usual milder spells. Even with the snow I'd say it has actually been drier than normal up our way.

I agree its colder was -15 the other morning!!!!! But we havent had muh rain have just had snow on the ground since before christmas. It has been snowing here since 7am today and still going strong. Have been forecast a meter of snow for the next 24hrs. I do love the snow but it has out- stayed its welcome for this year!!!! But the rain can stay away too!!!!

If it snows one more time i am emigrating....... We normally only get one small amount of snow per year and frankly that is enough for me. But this year it has snowed most weeks since before Christmas.

I am sick on the white stuff (and i don’t mean milk)

1st winter with ponies on our own land, 1st time I have EVER seen mud in the top paddock (incredibly well drained, as it has a gravel base, been here 14 years). Although it's rained or been under snow all bar about 7 days since mid November when we got the 2 ponies, it is only the last week we have proper mud which almost covers the toes of ones boots.

Annoyingly we sold 100+ bales of hay at the end of the summer (as we'd not intended getting ponies till the spring) for £2 a bale and have had to buy in at double the price, as we can't use the bottom paddock as it's far too wet, and if we had been able to open that up and without the snow I think we'd have just about got through without having to buy any hay.

I don't think it's been as wet as in previous years.

If my memory serves me right, 2yrs ago and 3yrs ago it seemed to rain non stop from Oct to Mar!

It's sort of been nice to have hard frosts... just to make walking across our swamp a bit easier!

It's an absolute nightmare now though....
