Hi Everyone,

I am trying out an Ansur GP saddle on my pony (ever changing shape). Has anyone found that they are quite slippy to sit on, how long does it take to get used to them. Current saddle is an Albion GP....

Cheers

Is it the original Ansur or the British made Solution?

If it feels slippy, it's either because it is a size too big for you, or it is not balanced properly for you (riser pads, shims and blocks). Have you had a proper fitting with an agent, or are you just borrowing it to try out?

It does take a bit of getting used to, in that you are sat on the horse, rather than above the horse, like you would be in a treed saddle. However, if it is properly fitted to the horse in the first instance, and to you in the second, then you shouldn't move about in it at all.

The Solution saddles are slightly easier to adapt exactly to the rider as they tend to have wider velcro bits to allow for more adjustment of the blocks. It could be you just need an extra shim or a different sized block.

PM me if you need any help.

I had a proper fitter but found it to be too slippery to ride on. Parted with the horse it was bought for and never dared try it on the mare as she can rear and I dont think it would be safe.

I hacked out in it today wearing a pair of sticky bums. Felt alot more secure and to my delight the saddle did not budge, not forward or backward nor left to right, which the Albion did constantly. I can understand you not wanting to use it on a horse that rears, however, I wouldn't get on a horse that rears. Thankfully my girl wouldn't dream of rearing and rarely bucks, only when she's having lots of fun playing pony games and her head never goes down. I'm going for another hack tomorrow, and will have a wee jump om Monnday, with a lesson Tuesday. Suspect I'm about to spend a lot of money, but I think it will be worth it in the long run.

I've got 2 of the Solution (jumping and dressgae) and would never go back to treed saddles if you paid me. True that you need a mounting block or similar but then getting on from the floor is bad for their backs anyway. Mine never slips, just make sure the girth in tight enough (and no tree points to worry about causing discomfort). They are so comfortable I can ride in them all day and I feel really secure in mine (I do British eventing in them).

Rode my friend's horse the other day on a treed saddle and couldn't wait to get off!

Might be worth thinking about the chimmie lined saddle cloths, they make a difference and as I said, my saddles don't budge, even when going XC.

Yahoooooooo! Jumped 2ft with ease. Didn't get whacked in the arse by a ridgid cantle. No pain from landing awkwardly on a solid pomel. YO helped with jumps and adjusting the knee blocks. No feeling of parting company at any point even when the entusiasm picked up. Onlookers were very impressed with how freely my wee girl was moving. Looks like baked beans on toast for the rest of the year......but SO WORTH IT!!!!!!

Solution Saddles do upgrading of old Ansur saddles which may help if you have any fitting problems.
They will also do a home consultancy service - even if it's an Ansur, not a Solution, and EVEN if you didn't buy through them.
They will help to fit and give advice on using the saddle and the wide range of accessories.
Correctly fitted and balanced, the saddle shouldn't move - even on a horse that can perform some stunts.
