Will an anti-bark collar work for a dog that wakes its' owners up at 5am every day with constant barking?

Or should it be a case of ignoring it for longer and longer every day. The dog in question is 9 months old and driving its' owners mad.
Thanks

Suppose it depends on other factors.....i.e
Normal routine
Could something be disturbing the dog/could it be when it breaks light and therefor assosiates it with someone coming to give attention.
Is it crates/contained in a room.
How long has the dog been displaying the behaviour
Do the owners go to the dog when it barks

Obviously the best thing to do is ignore the dog......from seeking the attention it craves......however like I mentioned, there are lots of factors as to why he could be displaying the behavior.....could u give a little more info.

my dog went through that at the same age i know its hard but you have to ignore him or just put him out as if you give them attention they are getting what they want !
my dog is now 1yr old and only ever barks if he is desperate for the loo! a friend of a friends dog has one of these collar it works a treat she has the one which sprays a little water at them when the bark ! but a beleave now she has to rely on it ! x

The dog barks from 5am summer and winter, weekdays and weekends. The owner gets up and lets it and the other dogs out in the garden for the loo. But on the times they have managed to ignore the dog he hasn't had an accident, so I think he's just decided he's bored, so barks.

He's not in a crate at night. Shut in the kitchen with two older dogs who don't bark.

What format are the anti-bark collars? Do they spray water, give shocks, rumble etc? And are they remote control or do they work automatically?
Thanks

that would explain why it did not work.

Thats odd we have a citris collar for the randy rescues....whilst waiting for their castration to kick in....and Im sure my mam has just ordered some refills

The bark collars are good, my dog barks when she gets over excited, she does it at the yard. so put the collar on and it works great. I got mine from british dog, there about £50 though. Mine gives them a little shock when they bark.

The only thing is you don't want the dog to think its bad to bark, as at times barking is important.

The anti-bark collars that use compressed gas/spray need to be used under supervision, at least to begin with. Point is, you must reward dog when it stops barking after it gets a spray. If not the dog soon learns to bark for 5 minutes and the spray will be finished!! Our dog learnt within a few minutes to throw her head to one side, the collar swung round and she could bark until her heart's content while it released spray up the side of her head which didn't bother her in the least. If the collar had been any tighter it would have strangled her.

I was considering one of these, but I checked with the RSPCA what collar they could recommend as I know there are issues. They said the only collar they approve is the Aboistop, but when I checked unfortunately the dog has to be above a certain weight, and my 5kg Yorkie is too small. So I don't know what the solution is for little yappy dogs!

That's the collar we used, they do come in two sizes, but I'm not sure if the small size is still too big for your little dog. I have a friend uses it on her Yorkie as it barks in the garden but stopped when she used the collar, but he only stops barking when wearing it. He stands by the back door waiting for her to put it on him, then he dashes out, barks once, gets a squirt up his chin and away he goes, doesn't bark again!!

Just don't try it yourself, I put it on my throat, did a bark and it nearly froze the chin off me, I swear it felt more like liquid nitrogen!

LOL, her Yorkie must come out of the same mould as mine! He barks in the garden; my neighbours are very tolerant, but they would be justified in complaining. The problem is we have had a fox who likes to sunbathe on one of the neighbour's shed roof, and my dog will bark at it, whether it's there or not.

At dog training we were told the solution to unwanted barking is to teach the "speak" command, to produce a bark on your terms, and then to teach "quiet" to stop it, which you can then use when you get unwanted barking. Hmm, easier said than done!!!

i had the one that let out a high pitched whistle every time my dog barked it worked very quickly. it was quite funny to watch every time he barked he could not make out where the noise came from.

I have this problem with my two dogs, they both bark at anything. It started when my eldest dog who we rescued used to bark when he got nervous. Then we got my puppy who just copied him. Now they bark at anything and everything.

We've tried shouting, ignoring, teaching them to sit everytime they bark, even tried teaching them to speak, which is impossible with two dogs.

Also having 4 members of the family, here at different times of the day trying to train them all makes it a nightmare.

Any ideas!!!????
