I'm SOOOO fed up with my neighbour. He keeps complaining that Alf the lurcher barks when someone passes the house while I'm out. My first reaction has been 'good, I WANT him to bark when he thinks we're being threatened' and my second 'oh get a life you moany old woman'. But now I'm bored with it so has anyone actually used an anti bark collar to good effect?

I don't want one that whistles as he'll drive the other dogs nuts but something that gave him a smack round the chops would be good

Or a puff of something to knock him out

We rehomed a GSD bitch who barked constantly when left. We tried one of the antibark collars that squirt citrus at them. It worked for a while but then she used to just bark and shut her eyes to avoid the squirt

, funny but didn't really help with the barking. Tbh if he is only barking occasionally I wouldn't bother to much, he is only warning of people about after all, otherwise it might be worth trying a spray collar. I am sure you weren't thinking of it but please do not try an electric shock collar, I know of someone who left one on a barking dog and the poor thing became a nervous wreck.

Your dog is just being a dog doing what dogs do. I think your reactions were right. If your dog only barks when people pass is there any way that you can close the curtains so your dog cant see people passing. Ok, he may still hear the noise outside but if he cant see them he probably wont bark as much

I would strongly advise against an anti bark collar and espicially if you have more than one dog as if the other barks then the dog with the collar will still get squirted and then you can end up with behavioural problems to deal with.

I wondered about this but as far as my neighbour tells me it's only Alf who barks. I've drawn the curtains, put a board outside the cat flap so he can't stick his head out to see, I leave a radio on to drown out any noise but it doesn't seem to work. I'll try one that squirts water first, if that doesn't work I'll sabotage next door neigbours deaf aid
