Hi all, apologies this isn't strictly competition but it's for a competition horse! My horse got cast a couple of weeks ago and actually broke the brick wall at the front of the stable which had to be re built. She has been in a different stable for 2 weeks whilst it's been re built and waiting to dry and hasn't got cast since being in there but has gone back in her newly built stable tonight and I'm panicking it's going to happen again and really can't afford for another wall and her hurting herself as she really caused herself some damage. Understandably after breaking a brick wall! So my question is are anti cast rollers worth a shot or do I just see how she gets on if it happens again then look at preventatives? Guess it could have just been one of those things and may not happen again but do I risk it?
Also how do I rug her up with one on do they go over the top?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Anti cast roller goes on top/over any rugs you choose to use....if none being deployed, just use a pad and the roller, but don't forget a breast girth!

I had a horse that lived in an anti cast roller until the age of about 6 or 7.......he had BIG straw banks, anti cast rubber strips on the walls, lunge lines permanently at the ready outside his stable and late night checks up until 11pm every night. We would for whatever reason find him 'turtle' at least once a week, but somehow seemed to grow out of it! Maybe it finally penetrated his thick skull that it was not such a bright idea to roll near a wall, but better to do it in the middle of the stable.

One of my ponies used to get cast in one of his old stables. So we got him an anti cast roller as although never hurt himself and just layer calmly waiting to be rescued it was a pain and didn't want it happening with no one around.

Definitely worked as never got cast again, we used to put it over his rugs fine. Doesn't wear it anymore as realised the stable was on a slight slope down to the back and stables he's been in since are level and bigger. Also never got it back along with all his rugs when he came back from loan.

I had a horse that could get cast in a field (yes, more than once, he would roll too close to the fence and get his legs under the fence somehow and then get stuck!) he lived in one for about 3 years and actually the thing that sorted my problem was moving him from a 16x12 stable into a 12x12 stable. It seemed he couldn't cope with the shape of the stable but when it was square he started rolling and sleeping in the middle! He was really the dimmest horse I ever owned......

Thanks all! Think I may get one for piece of mind although they aren't cheap! She has literally only done it that once but do I risk it happening again!?
Think it's because she has always lived out until I got her and has only been living in a couple of months and what I think she has done is she didn't want to lay in her wee and poo so has laid at the front of the stable on the rubber and got stuck. Bless her!
