hi,

I wonder if anyone here has any information or had 1st hand experience of this type of poisoning in dogs and what the outcome/prognosis was.

I have had someone deliberately try and poison my dogs and I wondered what the outcome would be???

Any thoughts advice would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Antifreeze poisoning causes dogs/cats to go into kidney failure and I'm afraid the prognosis isn't good at all although I did know one dog that did pull through after very intense treatment but it had a degree of kidney impairment following that that had to be managed.
A lot don't recover I'm afraid - I wish I could say something more positive, sorry.

. Antifreeze is used over here by many farmers to kill coyotes and wolves. From what I have heard, it seems to be very successful in erradicating populations of them as the taste is supposed to be something they like.

I'm sorry to read that someone has done this to your dogs and like the poster above, the prognosis is not good at all. Best of luck.

I had a cat that drank anti-freeze when next door neighbours were changing an engine in their car. He just became very quiet and went and laid under a shed until i took him to the vets who did tests and said he had no chance and so he was put to sleep. I was told there was no treatment and no hope, sorry not to be more positive.

Hi guys,

We may have been lucky this time as the dog is home with us at the moment. She had a few days where she was sick but at the moment she is eating and drinking normally, we are just awaiting blood test results.

Fingers crossed that the results show nothing out of the ordinary in regards to kidney/liver etc.

I know we are not out of the woods yet but if the idiot who did it is watching he will see I still have 3 happy healthy dogs !!!!!

Maybe I get lucky and will catch him doing it again as I am having CCTV installed courtesy of a friend who wants to help.

Fingers crossed.

quick up-date

It would look like that due to the quick actions of myself and the vet and the fact that I was sort of pre-warned that this would happen we have managed to limit the damage

Dog's blood work all came back normal so I guess we have been very lucky this time. Hopefully when we have the cameras installed we will catch him trying to do this again. He is a new neighbour who has a history of doing this type of thing and getting away with it.

That is really good news. I hope you are able to catch your evil neighbour and deal with him accordingly. I was just trying to work out how an earth you managed to get a blood test result at 4 in the morning when I realised you were in Australia

Aw that is fabulous news! What a moron your neighbour is - I think you have been very calm throughout however if you catch him on CCTV, I hope you are able to have him prosecuted!

Thanks Tia, we are lukcy that we have people who can help with the cameras and things, once we have them up I will feel better about taking things further with the police as he is really freaking out my two girls who he constantly watches when they are out. The police have advised us to get a restraining order on him but I am scared stiff about revenge from him !!!
