After some major saving and hard work
Ive just got myself a new upgraded horsebox.

It already has an alarm and immobiliser but im looking at gps tracking ,datatag or additional deterrants etc

What if anything do you have and recommend on your lorries?

Thanks in advance

Tracker.co.uk - your local mechanic should be able to fit one. They cost around £500 for a lifetime registration (might be a bit more as mine was fitted to a vehicle 5 years ago). If your battery is disconnected or any odd movement of the vehicle they ring you immediately & police cars scan vehicles for them once a Tracker device is activated as a theft. A brilliant deterrent. Also use Smartwater. If you contact your local Rural Crime Officer n your police force they will give you more details on both products. Hope this helps.

If money is a little tight then an old fashioned wheel clamp to the rear wheel is often a deterrent to the opportunistic thief. Just don't try to drive off with one attached.

I've actually done a fair bit of work on this...and you need to break it down into pieces... The newest and most supported system that was designed by Police and the Home Office is the CESAR marking scheme.
This is a visible marking which comprises unique registration numbers, and radio frequency tags together with thousands of microdots... Because it is so secure you can't fit it yourself but Police or your local agricultural dealer can...
It is a registration system which records the full details of of vehicle type and all your details including your 24 HR contact numbers...it allows a Police officer on the street to stop one and instantly be able to ring the owner...

JCB have fitted it as standard since 2008 and their theft rate has decreased 68% since! It is about £100 - £150 to have it fitted but it is a one off cost.
NFU Mutual also give approx 15% discount off your insurance for fitting it....which makes it pay for itself after just a couple of years!

Secondly I would consider an immobiliser...these can be super sophisticated or a simple switch made to look like a original switch in the cabin which knocks out the fuel pump or ignition....

Thirdly I would consider a tracking system buried deep on the vehicle. The most popular one being Tracker. They certainly have more detectors fitted in Police vehicles than any other company!

PM me if you want further details!

Here click on this link http://horse-care-and-advice.weebly.com/preventing-horsebox--trailer-theft.html In the download there is this

TRAILER/HORSE BOX

• Paint your vehicle registration on the roof of your vehicle.

• Farmkey and offer a service where you can buy a kit that provides a unique number to put on the roof or side of your vehicle that they also register. FASTSIGNS offer a self adhesive vinyl lettering kit.

• Datatag offer a tag / transponder system.

• Record all relevant numbers, e.g. chassis, body, hitch numbers etc

• Take photographs of the vehicle from all angles, keep in a safe place to help the police identify the vehicle if it is stolen.

• Ensure the area you keep your tack in is secure at all times even if the ramp is up.

• Fit additional locks and alarms if necessary. Wheel clamps and hitchlocks should also be considered.

• Be on your guard at all times, especially if you are at a show or horse sale.

• Put notices on your windows, partitions and ramp that your horse and tack is security coded.

our local caravan centre tells me wheel clamps can be removed in seconds :(

As somebody who usually gets the job of taking the wheel clamp off the trailer when we want to take it anywhere, if you get the sort that covers all the wheel-nuts, they really, really can't be. It takes me at least 3-4 minutes and I have the key to the blasted thing. Not to mention there's usually quite a lot of clanking and swearing involved, because it's heavy and the screws are a bit stiff.

I agree totally, I've lost count of the number of fingernails I've broken trying to get the damn thing off and at least a five minute job.

I don't know if they are still made, but we used to have an alarm that padlocked onto the steering wheel. If the wheel was moved it made a godawful loud siren like noise. No way you could stand it for more than a few seconds.
