Out of interest has anyone elses views changed on hunting?

I used to be vehemently anti, but after a lot of consideration and research I am now pro.

That is to say, a begrudging pro but I will support my hunt all the same.

I think a LOT of that is down to this forum (and lets face it that not a given a we have plenty from each side of the fence here) but also a lot is to do with my age I guess and exposure to the hunting community.

Have your views changed at all too?

Kitty

I went from very anti to actually going and now sit squarly on the fencel, I mean look at that little face in your siggie, aaarh!

Same! Although I would never hunt myself, and am swaying towards being anti again (but this is more to do with attitudes rather than foxy welfare).

100% anti to 100% pro - due to education.

Saying that, I've read a few posts on here recently from pro-hunting people (mainly around hunting attire) who are so far up their own proverbials that I'm not surprised a lot of people are anti-hunting on principle.

I've hunted all my life...my parents hunted...my husband was the terrierman for 20 years...and now I'm turning anti!
Nothing to do with the foxes, everything to do with the idiots that think they can gallop all over your crops for fun nowadays and no one does anything about it!
When they met here last though they dug and shot 3 foxes which was fab as they had been eating my chickens. Watched the dig and felt sorry for the foxes though - never used to, it must be an age thing.

Honestly and truthfully I am Anti - the principal of a dog ripping another animal to bits fills me with horror - BUT the local hunt have been very good to have with regards to fallen stock and also dispersal of horseflesh, so in that aspect they are good to have around.

However my Cob will be hunting this year, not me I hasten to add, and I will be there to support my horse and rider - so yes I am a fence sitter!!

I have reasons to why I am letting him hunt and he will more than likely only go this one time only. Mainly I'd like to have a go doing an unaffliated ODE maybe next summer and I strongly believe that this will give some indication on whether HE is up to it.

I am pro, on the basis that I don't think there is a sound objection to hunting in terms of animal welfare at all. And I am really looking forward to my first day's hunting in nearly 4 years in a few weeks time! BUT the only time I saw a kill I found myself quietly wishing for the fox to escape - emotion over logic I suppose. And round here, where I have never really hunted before, many of the hunting people are terribly arrogant and there is a lot of antagonism towards them from the farmers - what Clodagh said about idiots on horses!
