Hi there,

I am having to give me mare antibiotics in the powder form - 2 sachets for 10 days and am struggling already!! She won't take it through her food no matter how well i try to hide it with molasses - she can smell it a mile off so I have resorted to mixing it with water and giving it to her as a paste like wormer but she is getting really cunning and just holds it in her mouth then spits it out!! has anyone got any other ideas? - i have tried jam sandwiches but she doesn't like them either!!!

Alice took hers in her feed mixed in with some apple juce or fruit cordial. do you think she would try it if yu made her a smoothie type paste with liquidised carrots/apples? id like to know other peoples suggestions as alice is a nightmare when it comes to powder medicine.

You could ask your vet to swap the powders for a paste syringe instead (like a wormer)- it depends what antibiotic you are using as to whether they make a syringe version- I know they do an Equitrim syringe for example. I think I would phone my vet.

We mix ours with natural yoghurt in a washed out wormer syringe and give like a wormer if they wont eat it. Our mare had to have sachet twice daily for three weeks after she prolapsed, she'd have been a pin cushion to inject

Mix it with water and suck it into a syringe. then syringe it into her mouth, hold head up so she can't spit it out. Only way I could get antibiotics and bute into my horse after his op.
