I'm wondering if it is OK to give Dog antibiotics to a cat.

Basically my mum has some dog antibiotics which she ended up not using (they are not out of date - but she got them from the vet whom she knows very well... but ended up not giving them to the dog because he didn't need them). The antibiotics are called Nisamox 250mg

My sister's cat had an absess on her leg which has burst but she is still limping. there is a small amount of heat but not much.

Does anyone KNOW (not guess please) if she can give the antibiotics to the cat. She would plan on giving her a quarter of a tablet, twice a day.

My mum is a qualified nurse. She is able to diagnose that antibiotics are required in this case. However, she lacks the veterinary knowledge in terms of whether certain antibiotics are animal specific.

So does anyone know the answer?

thanks
Jenny

they're not the ideal antibiotic to use on a cat bite abscess (cba). normally i would prescribe Antirobe for these cases. Nisamox is used in cats, but you'd be far better getting a proper antibiotic for the job. It's also important with cba's to flush them out and clean them daily or they just re-form.
