I know the title is an oxy-moron but all will become clear!

Are there any anti-hunt riders in here that have started hunting since the ban? Because I know that although we have hunt 'sabs' alot of people who don't like hunting DO approve of drag-hunting.

So if you are an anti who hunts since (or before?) the ban please speak!

I'm anti (could you tell, haha) and would drag but live in London and don't know a trustworthy drag hunt.

Also, just out of curiosity, do most drag riders approve or disaprove of 'real' hunting?

I am pro hunting. But not against drag hunting as it allows more people to enjoy the sport. If I hunted locally to me I would have no choice but to go drag hunting, and I would probably go if the country around me was better, but I have been spoilt up north and cant hunt down around where I live as its just no fun.

Surely the Essex hunts could have you for slander....trail hunting is what we do... :) Can you imagine your fellow bunny brushers faces if you turned up in a breeches and a beagler....oooo I'd pay to see that!

I'd love to go drag / trail hunting (whatever you call it, as long as it does not involve a live quarry). At the moment though I'm wary that such a hunt might accidentally follow live quarry and/or that a fox might be shot beforehand in order to set the trail.

Some don't like the fact I even ride at all as they see it as exploitation!

I do respect their opinions (to be honest I saw a hell of a lot of cruelty working at a commercial riding school) but I'm happy that it is ethical so I won't stop.

Why don't you just monitpor a hunt on horseback RS? It seems to me you'd have just as much fun as all the rest of the field and your heart would remain pure.

I monitor a beagle pack on foot, it's great fun.

Without offending Liams...I have never quite seen the attraction of running around in the mud after hounds, getting cold, wet and dirty...perhaps Endy could shed some light :smirk:

Give me a horse anyday!

Then I think you're very short-sighted. For the animal rights extremists who want to outlaw all human interaction with animals - like keeping pets and riding horses - the hunting ban is just the first step.

I've never had any problems with violence. Mind you I've never mentioned I'm monitoring them either.

I'd suggest you just turn up at the meet, have a nice chat with everyone and then just join in with the rest of the field.

Maybe don't mention the word monitor, just say something like 'oh I'm just here to see what it's like' or 'I was just curious what you lot get up to'.

Oh and don't carry a video camera - not safe on a horse and rather unsporting. Everyone hates a grass.

I'm sure you'll have a great time RS. You could even stay at the back and close the gates. I'm sure that would be most appreciated.

Any further moral scruples , just let me know, I'm sure we can resolve them...

Maggots are banned for fishing in Scotland.

I'd love to say it was the animal rights brigade but it wasnt, people catch too much fish with them apparently ;)

Really? I have 2 dogs, a cat and four frogs. And I ride too. I think most of the sabs I know have pets of some sort.

But thanks for this helpful insight. I never knew these things about myself until I read your post.

My pleasure.

... and since the subject of NELS' activities is repeatedly brought up, could you reassure us that they didn't have any connection with the arson attack and release of animals at the Essex & Suffolk's kennels last year.

Is Murph the horse in the pic?

I often hack out an ex-hunter and he's magic. First time we were out we came across a huge roadworks, flashing lights, drills, the works. While my friends pampered Arab X went mental he casually trotted by as if to say 'Whats the fuss all about?'

It would be defo be good if there were more drag hunts around.

"Like fishing is cruel to the maggots?"

And cruel to the fish. Ah! I'm good at this.

I suppose the reason that I'm anti is because I was brought up in the city. Hated it so much, I tamed myself a fox and pretended to be in the country! I'm like it with all animals. A veggie, too.
