Hi all

Had a nasty experience with my horse this morning, when our neighbour decided to cut a tree down in their garden at 8am this morning (about 50 ft away from the back of my horses stable).

The neighbours had not warned us (nice) and as you can imagine it sent my horse loop'd'loo!! He completed sweated up, bucking, kicking, snorting, shaking, biting, throwing himself around like one mad horse. He hates it when he can hear a horrid noise but can't see it!

Anyway managed (sort of) to calm him down, just by trying to keep calm myself and reassuring him, telling them to stop chain sawing whilst i sorted him out as it was too dangerous to even go in his stable. Managed to get him calm enough (just) to do his rugs and put him in his field. Also put my older calmer pony in next door field to "babysit" as he was calm. Given him some hay too as he loves that, but with the wind he is still v on edge and jumpy! I've just checked him though and he is eating and o.k.

Just wondering if anyone had anymore advice and about the instant calming pastes, not used them before and know he's going to be a bit funny tonight about his stable...

Be very gratefully received.....
Thank You

not sure about instant claming pastes, but i know a lady that uses Global Herbs Thoroughbred Calmer, on her skatty arab and that has worked very well. shes feeds it once or twice a day, and reckons that it works, and she would know- seeing as though she has tried every calmer on the books!!!

Thanks guys, scary experience, just hate seeing the distress he was in, terrified, so couldn't blame him for what he was doing (but was quietly wondering whether i'd still have a stable or horse left!)

May give that global calmer a go for any competitions this year! It sounds good!!

Thanks Amy May too, he is a big lad, approaching 17hh now, not dis similar to yours by the looks of it!!

The only thing i didn't attempt was taking off his back leg wraps, he was far too unpredictable with his back legs this morning! So they look really fetching with his muddy rug!

Sorry about your horsey getting upset this morning...
Another one that you might like to try is Global Herbs supercalm which you can get in instant sachets...I tried it on my tb mare and i think it had an effect (she is nervy) for a situation wherby people were shouting in the woods next to her and that would normally wind her up...it was pure coincedience as I just had a sample packet to try as she is a fussy eater!!
They are the same as GH Supercalm but work quicker.
