Hi.

I am thinking of changing my trailer and buying a lorry.

H&H says that the DAF is the best to go for and I've found an L reg DAF, 2 horse, ideal for me, as I don't need a large lorry and don't need living space.

Any one got any comments/advice on these lorries. maintenance etc, good and bad please.

Thanks

we had a L reg daf and it was v good. my mechanic told me to keep to daf, iveco, volvo and not to touch the new mercedes atego althouhg the old mercedes 810 is ok. at the end of the day it also depends on how it was converted . we updated to a newer iveco that looked the part. when it went for its plating it was a complete mess underneath. brake sensors seized etc as it was going through the plating centre the brake pipes burst!!!. my OH said he liked driving the iveco better then the daf though.

i agree with that you should always try and buy a tilt cab. on our iveco though the mechanic had to dismantle all the cut through to tilt it. it took him ages. it was a bad conversion if you get a good one it makes all the difference. it was only converted 8 months before we bought.

We are in the process of getting a DAF. We are having a box built on DAF chassis which has air suspension. We have had Ivecos in the past, but my husband preferred the DAF and the horsebox company that are building the lorry for us are using lots of DAFs as they are good, reliable lorries with more acceleration than the Cargos, they are easy to work on and parts are easily available. We tried the Mercedes, but found it was too "wallowy". The turning circle on the DAF is also second to none.

Yup, we have just upgraded from a Cargo to a DAF. tried lots of different types but went for the DAF as its much easier to drive! Our mechanic also assures us that they are reliable and the parts (should you need to get any) are easy to get hold of. Was worried that ours has 200,000kms on the clock, but have been assured that this is hardly 'run in'!!
Good luck with the purchase of yours!

My current lorry is a Leyland Daf 45 -130
Its been fab been all over the UK last week it went to a show in Scotland - a 600 mile round trip ..lovely to drive !

Sold my cargo and bought a DAF 45 130. Absolutely love it, much better than the cargo. My mechanic also recommended getting a DAF over anything else.
