Brooke is coming along really nicely but I am struggling to get her to stand so I can get on her. I really don't want her to be frightened or for me to get cross/ pushy but as we have just moved yards and there is no mounting block, I need to crack this as soon as possible!!

Any advice gratefully received!

No need to get cross with her - if she moves away from where you want her to stand quietly, you just place her back in position again. If she moves forward, you ask her to move back to exactly the spot she was in previously. Don't get upset with her; just keep putting her back to the position until she stands nicely.

When you are ready to mount, place your foot in the stirrup; if she moves, immediately take your foot back out of the stirrup and place her back where she was. Do this at every single stage of mounting - even to the point of once you are on if she moves forward, get off and start the whole thing from the beginning again.

It honestly doesn't take very long for them to figure out that it is in their interests to stand still until you are ready to move off.

Agree with tia, once they realise that if they keep moving it will only take longer and they keep getting put back in the same place they get board pretty quick!

Agree with Tia - I had this problem with my mare, but she got very bored quickly with this method lol. She just sort of sighed and gave in lol. She now stands perfectly by the mounting block.

I was going to suggest superglueing her feet to the concrete...but I guess this would only be a very short term solution.

I like that idea!

I don't want anyone to think I do get cross, I don't and I know she tries really hard & doesn't really understand what I'm asking of her. It is however really frustrating! esp after 30 mins of it!
