i have a racehorse in training.mare.she was brought down during a hurdle race, and broke her pelvis.that happened 1st june last year.for three months she was resting, healing.and was put back into light training then heavy work;oad up to wed this week, when i got a call from my trainer saying that the crucial ligment above the hock is a problem..the vet told him that if it all fell off,it would heal better.we have been told there is nothing we can do,but wait to see if it heals, taking 6 8 weeks and then no guarentees she will race.has anyone got any info please on the injury, and what to expect.thankyou so much

i only know of 1 horse who had this and she had to be retired. this was at least 10 years ago so i'd imagine advances in veterinary work have come a long way. and maybe she was unlucky. did the vet give u 50/50 or such in if it would heal? i hope if she does have to retire u keep her or rehome her somewhere nice. i'm a huge fan of exracers (i have 1 myself)

I dont know anything about the hock jobbie. All I can say is the filly never really stood a chance, having only 3 months off after a pelvis.
If the filly is rated, then I would put her in a field for 18 months and see what time brings. If she is of limited ability then I would rehome, and strictly advise the new owners that she needs time off.

We had a pointer come down over a jump and break his pelvis and shatter his shoulder, so much damage, had to be PTS.

No idea about the hock but it sounds like this filly needs some serious time off before you think about doing anything with her.
