Any Donkey Owners?

As this is such a huge forum board, I am assuming that some of you may own donkeys. I know Becca114 does and I know Jinglejoys owns mules.
Anyone else going to admit they own donkeys?

I have three, all mares, all used for driving. One has recently been to stud - so fingers crossed, and one is new and with a possibility of being in foal. We hire them out for drives, events, parties etc so they are more than just pets - apparently!!

Yep, have to confess to being owned by a donkey. Clint is 29 (at least). Have had him for 21 years, originally got him as a companion for my old horse, who he subsequently outlived. He is typical donkey, very stubborn but very sweet. Had to buy him a turnout rug when all this bad weather started as had just had him clipped, cos he doesn't lose his winter coat and gets too hot in summer. He looks so sweet in it, its a 4ft 3 foal rug!
 
Stinkerstonkersmum, you are always making me look when you mention Donkey, then I am slightly disappointed you are talking about your horse again. Nothing wrong with that, he's a lovely horse.

Murphysminder, two of my girls wear 4'3" rugs but the fourth wears a 4'6" - great lump!!

Interestingly, all my girls I bought in Shropshire

Don't own one, or any amimals at all really but there was a Donkey Derby near OH's house.

So sweet - donkeys were raced bareback by kids. If the kid was too heavy for the donkey or otherwise annoyed it - kid fell off - very funny! Especially as they didn't seem to like leading, but enjoyed losing the kids. I even won money (by betting on the kids who had proper riding kit!)

Bareback seems like a good idea for the donkeys - easier to lose the annoying weight - they'll just wobble off and chances of being made to canter rather slim!
 
I dont have any, but my gelding has a donkey stallion friend in the neighbouring field to his : They are always together lol.-

Mules ain't stubborn they're just careful (they get that from the donkey)

You have to be careful if you live in the mountains.A plains animal like the horse can afford to move then think,on a mountain you have to think then move otherwise you'll move straight down!

but I do send money via DD to the Brooke Hospital every month. Theres just something about them I really like

One of my mum's liveries had an equine that I swear was a mule, when she asked how to find out, the farrier said 'shoot it cos mules always needing shooting more than once'

My dad used have donkeys and now my sister has 2 of them, she takes them to shows and her and OH are judges aswell apparentley, they drive them. Wonkey Donkey and Inkey Jake also have met Princess Alexandra twice!

Of coarse you can! You get 16/17hh donkeys and certainly 16+ horses---Mules usually make a Hand bigger than their dam so 16h= mules aren't rare

i dont have one but my mum and brother are in love with them lol my friend works at a riding school and the owner has over 50 donkeys and breeds them lol when i went to help them out when she was ill they had just had a baby donkey
