I'm 16 years old and have been riding for 10 years, I have and Thoroughbred mare that I compete and hack out and she's 100% with everything.

I have a dream of riding from on side of britain to the other, however, I've only really done 30 mile hacks at the most, which is nothing compared to the East of Endland (where I live) to the Wales area.I am hoping to do this in two years time after my A-level exams and just before I go to University, thats unless I have a gap year. Also it would be in aid of a charity, I was thinking RDA or The injured jokeys fund.

This means that I would be interested in any advice anyone could give me on equipment to take, how I should get my mare used to longer distances, and how to go about getting her fit enough for the work both she and I will be doing in order to get from the Peterborough area to Wales.

Do you have a timescale and a route? So, do you know how many miles you expect to travel in a day? Enduance tends to be hard and fast, probably not what you have in mind, although the training would benefit your mare's fitness.

Ahrena, a member on here rode the South Downs Way this summer - maybe she has some tips about long distance leisure riding too.

Tracy Elliott-Reep rode with two Highland Ponies from John O Groates to Land's End I think in 2003. She wrote a book and proceeds went to RDA. She bought one of the ponies from a friend of mine.

Sorry I don't have a contact but I am sure you could research it.

I have always wanted to ride across France but don't have any companions and don't like riding on my own. sob sob.
