Hi I'm looking for a winter turnout, preferably one that doesn't destroy my horses mane like my fal rug does! It's only just grown back fully from last year!!

I won't buy rhinegold as they are literally mini skirts on my horse (and she's a tb cross so god knows what horses they do fit!!)

But wondered if anyone knew what these fit like?

If it was me, and I was worried about my horses mane rubbing, then I wouldn't buy a full neck rug with cotton lining - I would be looking for nylon as it rubs less and makes the coat shiny :)

If I were you I would spend a little bit more on a better rug, at least then you will know they will last at least a year or two! The Amigo range is cheap and hard wearing (1200D).

I'm not sure about shire's etc as I have never used anything but Rambo and these have lasted a few years and been great value for money.

I've just bought an Amigo with neck cover new from an online saddlery for less than that rug.

Thank you all very much, the fal rug has got a smooth neck lining and my stable rug combo also has a smooth (non friction) neck lining but both have proved ineffective at maintaining my mane!!! I resorted last year in the end to my very old very knackered fal with no neck and had to hope she didn't get a cold neck!

I have got an amigo 1200D medium and have been very pleased with it, but with a neck cover on it seems to ride up her and expose her bottom!! Whether it's just that the neck part I have is too small I'm not sure, the rug fits beautifully without it! And I've been very pleased with how hard wearing it's been.

I bought a second hand shires combo last year for my youngster and that never rubbed his mane, but different mane and I expect his is hair is made of harder stuff!!!!

Have you had a look at the Snuggy Hoods range?? I'm getting one of their turnout neck covers and the lycra type ones for inside to stop my boy's mane rubbing.
I'm hoping they'll lay his mane a little better too because it's a bit like a bog brush and no amount of plaiting will lay it over the right way!! They are a bit on the pricey side but I'm hoping that means they're good! :)

I had the same problem with my horses maine when she was wearing a shires rug - it just rubbed patches of maine out!!

Put her back into her weatherbeeta combos and high necks and have never had any probs - couldnt rate them enough for her!!! I think they are great hard wearing rugs that are well priced and nice and deep just how i like them on her! ;0)

Oops you beat me to it :p xx

OK now spent most of the day (as I'm poorly sick ill!!) infront of computer looking and I like the look of the weatherbeeta orican detach a neck, the neck cover looks like it might give my horses mane more room and hopefully spare it a bit! But I also found this rug which looks very similar but half the price!!

Admittedly the orican is slightly heavier in weight.

Anyone with any experiences of protuff wear, their boots look ok too?

I have yet to find a full neck rug that does not rub my horses mane to some extend, mine seems to be permenatly rubbed as wore a full neck fly rug this summer too. Might have to go for one of those snuggle hoods although I don't think my horse will be too keen on one of those.
