Has anyone got any experience of a dog who is allergic to:-

Chicken
Beef
Lamb

It gives her a rather explosive back end, she also tends to eat her own droppings and anyone elses she finds. The dog is such a food orientated Springer Spaniel of coming on for 3 years old, she belongs to my parents but it currently driving my mum to distraction, she is the most difficult Springer they have had to date and the past 2 days my mum does not know what she has eaten but twice has had some nasty accidents on them coming down in the morning. She is a lovely dog but as they are finding the stomach upsets harder to deal with, my Dad refuses to muzzle her but my mum thinks it might be best as she picks things up when out for her walks etc and this is what my mum is currently thinking is the problem.

I don't live with them but they do manage her very well considering all the issues, she is fed on a fish based diet as recommended by the vet and has had all blood tests done hence the known allergies. If anyone has any advice or experience with this kind of thing it would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Yes my dog is intolerant to poultry. Gives pretty liquid stools. Fine with lamb though. If it were my dog I'd be muzzling when out. I expect the dog gets quite distressed having to soil inside and unable to hold it in,and I'd be pretty distressed having to clean it up ;)

Could try a probiotic and see if that helps? Good luck!

She is fed a fish based diet as recommended by the vet, this seems to work well with her and she can manage small amounts of pork so for treats is fed pork treats.

I've just sold 2 lots of pork treats to a customer with a greyhound with the same problems, seems more common than I thought as a friend also has a GSD who's intolerant to the same things, wonder why dogs are becoming allergic to these foods.

My collie has lots of food intollerances including most animal proteins and she's on wainwrights fish dry food plus she seems to be fine with pretty much anything else by wainwrights - definately worth trying as they do chews with no meat in at all.

Our young Spinone had the runs on any complete food, has been fine on raw food mianly chicken, lamb and rabbit are also ok.
Our older Spinone ate the other Dogs poo, stopped when she was changed to raw food.
May not suit all dogs, but ours haven't looked back since being changed to raw food.

Our cross breed puppy has an intolerance to chicken- he was so itchy and scabby poor thing (not to mention the gas escaping out the rear end!) we've switched him to james wellbeloved (the fish one) and he's been brilliant ever since- again, unless he picks something up. I have also considered muzzling him, but as he's only 4-5 months old we're going to hope he grows out of it. If not, then I think a muzzle is far preferable to a very upset tummy- although you'll probably get some strange looks on walks with a friendly, muzzled dog! ;)

I am having problems with my 1 yr old dog, he's been at trhe vets a few times now with a poorly tummy.
They have told me he has mild colitis as he had blood in his poo which was the most recent time i took him to see the vet, he has been put on a probiotic long term and as he refuses to eat dry food (he used to eat this ok as wet food upset his tummy) I have been told to feed him sensitive tummy diet. However he will eat this but it made him very sick, everywhere poor boy.

So he's been back again and is now eating only scrambled egg for a few days. I will then add white rice. and see how we go from there. The sensitive food I gave him said it had salmon in so he wont be getting fish from now on as it did him no good at all.

I think its going to be a slow process of finding out what he can safely eat and sticking to it. I have ordered him a muzzle so he doesnt eat rubbish when he is off the lead.

I would be getting them to send of a stool sample, looking for giardia or some weird bug such as campylabactor, get sensitivities done as well ,and then all should be ok.Certainly not normal .
