hi, feeling a little delicate at the mo, my main dressage horse has been lame for 4 weeks and was diagnosed with degenarative joint disease last night. i am gutted but trying to remain positive. the plan is 7 adequan injections, get her back to fitness so muscle/ cartiledge supports joint and hope she goes sound. Anyone had any experience with Adequan?
Vet said the DJD had been there a while (sinc about 2 yr old, she is now 7) Vet also said if i didn't have her so fit she would have been lame long ago, as she lost fitness with time off due to abcess the DJD made her remain lame apparently.

Yes use it on my boy every 6-12 months depending on how bad he is. He was diagnosed with DJD 2 years ago. Its a polysulphated glycoseaminoglycan!! It helps cartildge - won't repair it but encourages it to keep being made. My boy was lame with his stifle and after 7 i/m injections and 1 month off came back sound and we haven't looked back. Now I use this instead of feeding oral joint supplements and he's never been better!

Quite a few horses on my yard have had a course of this and have done well. They have also been put on Synequin and a marked improvement has been seen on one particular horse.

My Grade A was diagnosed at 10 with not producing any synovial fluid in any of his joints, causing DJD, it was like water when they stuck in a needle into his joints and also bone spavins in both hocks.

After a course of adequan he was 100% sound, and went on to compete until he was 19 still doing Grade A tracks when I felt he was just getting a little deeper and landing a little steeper to save himself so retired him.

Have just had an eventer on the yard given a course as has developed a stifle problem and high ringbone, and he is now 100% sound and back in fitness work.

I do think that general management of the condition also helps, keeping them fit and active, correct warming up, no trotting on roads, working on hard ground etc etc which I followed strictly.

I really hope it works for you.

i was advised to have adequan injected into my mares ddft. i decided against it as it was a lot of money with no guarantees. i decoded to use micro current therapy and to great effect..within 4 months my mare was back in work. look up the website called microvet.
