Hey,

I'm thinking of getting a pair of dwarf rabbits, but was just wondering is anyone has had any experience with them.

I have one guinea-pig (She used to be in a pair, but sadly she died acouple of days ago), we're hoping to introduce them together. Or is it a No, No??
Should I buy another pair of guinea-pigs, to introduce instead of dwarf rabbits?

Do dwarf rabbits tend to bit? Or are they vicious (sp)?

Any info introducing them would be great? Or if its just a definiate No, no?

And and any other info on dwarf rabbits would be great. I am reading up online about them atm to

Do you think (if i bought them as babies) that they would be ok with my adult guinea-pig? we've introduced her (daisy my guinea) to our last guinea-pig(which has now sadly died at the age of 4) (we bouht them at different times, from different places) and she was was totally happy with it all.

i have piggies and rabbits and they have always been ok together.. i used to breed rabbits too ... sometimes you are better off getting them young to put together but you really shouldnt have any problems ....

Hi, I have five rabbits- one of them is a Dwarf rabbit who is an absolute sweetie! However I wouldnt put rabbits and guinea pigs together as bullying can be a problem and dwarfs can be quite feisty! If you did get the rabbits dont have them living with the guinea pig but they might be ok if they are supervised. Dwarfs arent anymore vicious than normal rabbits- its how much they are handled that determines this, as with any animal!

In my experience rabbits and guinea pigs are a no-no, but that's just one rabbit and one guinea pig that I had. I ended up seperating them and getting another guinea pig.

I had a poorly dwarf rabbit so I bought a gp to keep him company indoors.....he perked up enough to beat cr*p out of the gp.

I now have a pair of gps who live seperate from the rabbits.

I wouldnt put them together!

Its really not recommended that you keep rabbits, even dwarf rabbits, and guinea pigs together.
You would be better buying another female pig to keep your one company.
We did used to keep a dwarf rabbit with one of our piggies, they had been together from a very young age and he was fine with my pig, but could not be let near the other pigs we had as he would attack them. In the end we separated them as the bunny wouldn't always take much care where he was boinging and could sometimes mow my little pig over. If you read any book on piggies it recommends that rabbits and guinea pigs are not kept together.

Some rabbits are also carriers for a bacteria called Bordatella which has no effect on rabbits but can cause a potentially serious respiratory problem in guinea pigs.

My favourite ever bunny, Shadow, was a Dwarf. He was abandoned in a box down our lane with his dead friend; he was so skinny, we didnt think he'd make it. But he went on to live for another three years with our 10 guinea pigs! He was the sweetest bunny ever - when he was hungry, he'd pick up his feed bowl with his front teeth and flip it towards my feet! He was a lovely little man!

We've had bunnies and guineas together for years, with no problems. The only problem we ever had was with one rabbit which actually killed his mate - he never touched the piggies, but he completely mutilated poor Rusty, so my dad took him out and shot him!

I know a lot of pet shops tell you bunnies and guineas are a no-no, but as I say, we've never had any problems.

All I will say is that if your GP died a few days ago, act quickly to get your other one some company, whether that is another piggy or a bunny. They pine so easily, and if one has died, the other often follows out of loneliness

I once had a rabbit and guinea pig brought at the same time, the rabbit kept humping the guinea pig and damaged his pelvis, he died within two weeks. Might of just been bad luck, but I would be careful, as I don't think they recommend keeping rabbits and guinea pigs together now. I would try introducing another guinea pig to be on the safe side.

I had a dwarf and he was kept with about 10 guineas and introduced late. He was a little sod! He was feral as were the guineas (they are very territorial and we never lost any to cats or wandered off very far) we had all of them 'free range' though we controlled breeding. The dwarf would always come home. He chased cats and loved all the guineas except one whom he hated. It was a fat guinea that smelt! He would run every morning to the back door and grab a digestive biscuit off us...he would then proudly sit out of reach of the guineas eating it! What a little sod!

Always been told dwarf rabbits are horrors! And also that age is important when introducing rabbits and guineas together - so if they are not all babies I would think you were unlikely to be successful

I once went to the pet shop with my kids to get a rabbit, and came back with two Netherland Dwarf rabbits and two guinea pigs. They had been together in the pet shop, and I suppose I must have had reassurances that they would get along that influenced my decision to come home with all of them.

We had a big hutch and a big run, space wasn't a problem.

They did live together quite happily, but I wouldn't recommend Netherland Dwarf rabbits as they aren't as friendly as other breeds.

The other problem is that rabbits burrow, and chew wire. This can lead to a mass escape which you wouldn't get with guinea pigs alone. This is how we lost one of the rabbits (the other was still in the garden). If I were to repeat the experience I would put a run within a run to make a breakout less likely.

not had chance to read the replies but as a child we had Netherland dwarf rabbits and they were fab pets! we had a lot over the years (oops the pet shop said one was a girl - it was a boy!) and cannot fault them at all, we also had one with a guinea pig and they got on fab - there were not together when they were young, when the guinea pig died, snowie the rabbit burried it in the 'bedroom' and then refused to ever go in there again, he died not too long after.
