Any experiences with mammory tumors.

18 months ago i inherited 3 daxis, ive only got 1 left, shes an 11 year old unsprayed bitch, shes had a mommory tumor for 5ish years but its never caused any problems, its lumpy and skin coloured, every now and then it would turn purple and bleed a few weeks then turn skin coloured again, for the last month its been an angry red blood colour that is constantly dripping blood and has developed a ulcer, the bitch is her normal self. shes also on medication for disc problems, the vet has seen the tumor { when it was skin coloured} and we both said to just leave it. If i took her back to the vets is there anything they could do to stop the bleeding, or is it a waiting game, i will have her pts if she starts going downhill. Any one had a bitch with a tumor.
 
Shes only 11....i would take a chest xray to check that the cancer hadn't spread to her lungs,bloods to make sure the anaesthetic would be safe enough and then do surgery to remove the ulcerated tumour...and spey her at the same time to reduce the chance of more occurring.....11 isnt that old for a dashy.....these mammary cancers/ lumps arent always malignant so removing them and the hormonal control can be curative.

I wouldnt leave her with an ulcerated tumour.
 
Both my irish setters had mammary tumours and both had them removed. One had quite extensive surgery and entailed removing all the mammary glands on one side. The initial tumour was a fairly mobile firm lump. She was spayed as well. I would be very concerned with the ulceration and bleeding. If she is fit enough to have surgery then I would have removal . I found a couple of small mammary lumps on Skye a couple of years ago when she was nearly 9 years old. Both mammary glands were removed and sent for biopsy that came back as benign cysts and she was speyed at the same time. She's still fit and active at 11 years old, competes at open flyball and veterans/allsorts agility.
