I'm looking for some help understanding how to correct lameness with remedial shoeing.

Horse has been lame on and off for a while so vet has done some investigating to see whether it was suspensory ligament damage. This has now been ruled out and the vet thinks that the hoof is off balance (if that makes sense) and the horse is straining tendons when he's moving.

Can this be (easily) corrected?
How would it be done?
Could my usual farrier do it or should we look for someone who specializes in remedial farriery?

Many thanks :)

ETA: This makes my farrier sound rubbish - he's great, actually. the horse is in a different country and possibly moving back if lameness is not corrected.

This is all a bit vague, if the horse has ligament damage there would almost certainly have been heat at some stage.
If it is due to imbalance then you may need to take off the shoes and go barefoot until the problem is identified or solved.
Your vet would usually have suggested X-rays and possible remedial farriery by Jim Ferrie, it is this man who does most remedial work in your area. He will travel to interesting horses but it is too much to ask for a diagnosis by forum.
I suggest you read Feet First, it is clear and not full of jargon, it will help you a lot, but you need to read it several times to pick out the relevant information.

The horse isn't in scotland, unfortunately. He's in Dubai so the regulations are slightly dodgy regarding qualifications etc.

I'll do a google search for Jim as he might be coming back to the UK to be treated.

The vet has done x-rays and is convinced it's a conformational issue rather than ligament damage. The owner is getting a second opinion tomorrow.

If it is due to his foot not being balanced, would taking his shoes off make much of a difference?

I know it's not exactly what you asked for - but when you said Dubai it just seemed too similar not to post - hope you don't mind;)

It's pretty similar actually - the hoof is unbalanced and its straining the tendons. it was an interesting read so thanks :)

I can assure you he is up at Glasgow vet school every Thursday.

Thanks - That's good to know. the horse will be moving back here anyways but he might come back early to try to get his feet sorted if nothing can be done in Dxb

apparently the horse in the links was stabled next to the one Im asking about

he has an appointment with a different farrier today so finger crossed they get something sorted
