I slipped on ice this morning walking the dogs - one of those slow motion and know its going to hurt moments....!

I landed on my bum and elbow - bum is very sore but liveable with, but my elbow has swollen quite badly.

I have normal motion and hand etc works fine, so suspect just a deep brone bruise.

I have it currently wrapped in ice with arnica at the ready - is there anything else I should do?

And before you suggest Dr's have been snowed in for a week now.....!

Thanks - would ibuprofen help or is that just for sprains and strains?!

Will phone surgery later if swells any more x

Mmmm - wouldn't want to advise re. medication; perhaps there are some medical professionals on here who would??

But if you've taken it before, can't see it would hurt as long as you stay within the recommended dosage; however I personally won't take the stuff as it just doesn't agree with me.

Think you should phone surgery in any case and maybe ask to speak to a doctor on the phone just to ease your own mind, especially if your arm continues to swell.

You may have damaged the joint which is filling with fluid, id advise to call nhs 24 or doctor for some further advice, they dont advise compression in first aid now, but rather comfort, so if you bandage now its more for comfort than compression.
Only keep ice pack on for 15-20 mins then give a break for a wee while and re apply. Your doctor or NHS24 can give proper medical advice over the phone if youre snowed in

Yes, phone NHS direct. When I broke my arm my hand took more than 24 hours to swell. I would play safe and get to a and e as soon as you can get out.

I slipped on the top of our three stone steps. Landed on the edge of the bottom one - one ar$e and two elbows.

Left elbow okay, but right elbow stiff and swollen.

I've cracked the left one a few years ago, so knew that that time it was only when I moved in one direction that it hurt enough to make me scream, so I moved this one all ways and whilst it was ouch it wasn't scream worthy (the last one there was no thinking nor option, the scream just happend!).

The area swelled and bruised quite noticeably. I took Ibuprophen and paracetamol every four hours, making sure it was after I'd eaten, otherwise the Ibuprophen can cause an upset stomach. It worked for me. Obviously I don't know what drugs you can/should take, just saying what I did

Hope it stops hurting soon!

Thanks all for your support - no more swelling but still iceing it every 20 mins/20 mins off. Still can move everything as normal and no tingling so have stopped panicking, though the bruising is very impressive!

Have just been out to get the horses in and no problems there....my first concern was 'who would do the horses?!' if I had really damaged it!

At least I have a constant supply of snow to keep it iced, rather than wasting my valuable supply of frozen peas!

Yours snowed in up a Shropshire hill x

If there is any swelling you should get an xray.It is impossible and risky to diagnose and offer treatment via a forum.Bottom line is you should get the injury examined by a professional. It's better to eliminate a problem than wait and see,in which case it may resolve,or may worsen.
