Could a GP drop me a PM?

I’m not wanting health advice, I’ve got a test result over the phone from receptionist and I can’t get an appt with my GP til next week and I’m feeling rather worried about it!

If you are worried can you not book one of the emergency appts first thing in the morning?

It is beyond an eff on… without going into too much detail. You are phone triaged, then telephone “emergency” appt, but can’t give you a specific time just rough time. I live and work in really poor signal area so when they do call I miss it anyway ?
They won’t see you in person.

it was just to clarify some terminology used!

Sad state of affairs isn’t it ? do they do online ‘ask my gp’ thing? Seems so frustrating that you have to wait a week to get a question answered - hope you get the information you need to stop worrying ??

Does your surgery have a nurse, you could ring and ask to talk to her. I wouldn't imagine they would send poor results over the phone, normally you would be asked to make an appointment. If they have then that is very poor practice.

I use the NHS website quite a lot and have found it good for terminology.

I dont mean the NHS site where one has to sign in to see ones own records. I mean the information web site.

Our GP practice does do test results by the phone. One is asked to ring in at a particular time, usually round about lunch time which I suppose it is conveneint for people who are out at work. But I dont think bad results would be given by phone. But Covid has altered so much. We old people are not encouraged to go to the surgery.

yes, and no. Can’t chat to nurse. receptionist has said my result is abnormal and I asked if they could read what has been sent.
They gave me result, positive, negative etc and said you need an appointment to discuss (clarify) with GP which the earliest of which is a weeks time.

it’s not a black and white positive means this, negative means you’re in the clear. I’m /fairly/ clued up with medical terminology for a lay person.

If it is only a matter of clarity on what a particular use of terminology might mean could Dr Google help. I wouldn't normally suggest this for medical advice but it doesn't read as though it is actual advice you are looking for? Apologies if I have misunderstood.

no you are completely correct

basically, if I have what i think they think I have, it’s not treatable anyway. So I don’t need advice per se.

I googled what I was given over the phone and it honestly didn’t make it any clearer ?

I asked for a copy of my pelvis and lower back MRI 18 months ago, it was only done to see exactly where they were going to inject my lower back nerve damage. With the help of Dr Google I managed to interpret all the medical gobbledygook and knew I wouldn't be getting any injections anytime soon, but 2 new hips instead before I actually got a hospital appointment for my official results! Didn't speed anything up but at least I didn't have to wait 3 months to know lol!

Good luck and I hope whatever it is you won't get any unwelcome results.

I will post on here if it’s good/bad/expected purely for nosiness sake! Thank you for your kind words!

the test can throw false positives and negatives, if you’ve got xyz it can present as the thing they think I’ve got.

My FIL was a pharmacist and my husband a pharmaceutical wholesaler. You would be horrified if you knew how many times your local pharmacist has to contact the prescribing GP to have a potentially lethal prescriptions changed!

My OH has also been aware over the years of family prescriptions that have an adverse reaction alongside other meds, and we have had to ask GP to amend them.

I certainly have more respect and trust in my local Pharmacist than my own GP!

Nothing helpful to add and I hope you get the news you want.

Slightly odd suggestion from me but (depending upon the issue) do you know any vets? Could they help?

Does your GP have an online portal at all? It may have the functionality to allow you message the Doctor (usually triaged by the medical secretary). Although an appointment next week is a pretty good timeframe, you're looking at least a month out with my GP now a days :/

I can remember picking up a prescription and rather than the assistant coming out the pharmacist himself handed it over to me. He looked me up and down and asked me if I would mind having a chat in his private room (I had been very, very ill). I explained symptoms and he blatantly said he didn't think the drug I had been prescribed was going to help and if I didn't see any improvement then I really must get back in touch with the GP in 48 hours. After 2 long weeks of no improvement, multiple appointments, GP upping dose, still no improvement I ended up in A&E lucky to be upright. Hospital were furious with GP practice.
