Any idea if these are safe

They have red stems and are popping up all over the field. Also is bristly oxen tongue safe as I am getting mixed answers online!

Hard to make out from the photos but they look like seedlings. Impossible to tell what of at this stage - what trees/shrubs are nearby?

I also think sycamore seedlings. If so, very toxic and potentially fatal if ingested. Get horses off as soon as you can.

It's hard to tell from the photos, but they do look quite ash-like.

Sycamore seedlings tend to come out of the ground in a sort of curled-up coil and then unfurl, whereas Ash push up with the two leaves 'straight,' so you can spot them as smaller growth.

The veining on the leaves of sycamore seedlings is in straight, almost parallel lines, whereas the veining on ash is more irregular. Ash seedlings also have shinier, slightly lighter leaves, which are a little shorter and wider than the really long, thin sycamore seedling leaves.

Like I say though, it's probably easier to compare in reality than from a photo.

I get these and they are from one of the sycamores in the garden. It doesn’t seem to be a bad year for them this year as in previous years I’ve had to fence the whole area off and now he - this year only the odd one pops up and I just pull them up. I’d pull them out just in case.

Here are some more photos, I really sought it is sycamore as they are all near ash and Norway maple and we have no sycamore trees near the field. The closest one is up the road. The side of the field that is closest to that has no seedlings (still v far away)IMG_8341.jpegIMG_8342.jpeg

Can you fence off that bit of the field until they get a bit bigger and can be properly identified?
Or if not get rid of most by mowing or pulling but leave some you can fence off
It would be useful to know for sure what you are dealing with for future years

Sycamore I think, we have them sprouting up all over the front and back garden and I'm always plucking them out before they can get more established. The spinning seedlings will fly a long way in the wind in autumn so a tree a decent way away could still manage to spread to your field.

We do have a sycamore tree on our field boundary and as fruitcake said, sycamore seedlings have long, straight leaves with more of a pointed tip.

However if you are concerned best to either pull them out or fence the area off.

Hi all. I have pulled them out but I really think it is the Norway maple ( which is safe) as they were all around it and some new leaves on the tree had the same colour stems as the seedlings. Some have also developed new leaves which suggest they are maple possibly. The one in the first pic had two leaves but one came off! Do you think I should still pot up?
