Found this nail in Lari's foot this morning after I brought him in.
Can't think what the piece of leather is off, partner thinks its strapping off a box, the strapping appeared in my manger earlier in the week. The mangers are all attached to each stable and are used to store brushes and other grooming equipment in. When tied outside the stable Lari likes to root through his manger and drag everything out, brushes, hoof picks, etc. making as much noise as possible! It was then I saw the all his brushes and the leather piece on the floor with one nail attached. I was horrified as I knew I'd not put it in there as I know he roots through it. I picked it up and stored it away in my box out of reach as I wanted to investigate where it had come from.
Luckily when picking out his feet after bringing him in this morning I saw the nail. Someone kindly got it out with some pliers as I couldn't do it.
I've sprayed the hole with iodine. The nail wasn't in there yesterday for certain as I picked his feet out and moisturised them about four hours before I turned him out.
A close up reveals the paint worn off as he's been walking on the concrete from the field to the stable.
I just hope he doesn't get an abscess. I will treat with hot tubbing later.
