Yesterday my horse had a swelling down the front of the left fore cannon. Not hot or lame, but cold hosed etc. This morning is was a bit bigger, but now is just staying the same size. It still doesn't have any heat in, and the horse is perfectly sound and seems unaware of the swelling. My main worry is that is is all the way down the common lateral extensor tendon (i think as the swelling stops at the pastern). It starts by the side of the knee, then runs down the front of the leg. It isn't fluid filled, it is pretty solid, almost feels like a thickening of the tendon. Here are some pics:

Sore shins had crossed my mind, but as far as I am aware (and I am probably wrong!) it is a condition isolated to young horses???? My horse is 17!!!!!!!!

Ah, 17! I was about to suggest a splint forming but maybe not at 17! Is he lame on it or not? Not sure if he's had a kick to his shin and he might have chipped his splint bone. I'd watch it like a hawk, do the usual first aid stuff but if he's lame and it isn't resolving in a day or 2, vet.
