I was washing ponys tail about a fortnight ago and noticed she had a hard lump, around half the size of a golf ball at the top of her tail bone.
Its solid, causes no pain and isnt itchy. Ive poked, squeezed, prodded and nothing. It hasnt changed at ll in the last few weeks.
i have left it to see if it went away on own but now its been a while im a little concerned!
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? have shown others on yard and noone has a clue. Am considering getting vet out but as its not causing any problems dont particulary want a bill for nothing.
any ideas?thanks

Could be a melanoma. These can be benign (lots of greys get them on their tail), or it could be malignant, which would likely need removal.

Either way I would have the vet out to check if its been there for a few weeks.

I think that lumps in horses are like the ones on people...they could be whole raft of things, most of which are not nearly as nasty as the first one that always pops in to our head's when we find them!

Best to get the opinion of an expert before you start worrying too much.
